Cards news: May 16 -- Trade sends IF Muncy to Detroit for RHP Wilder
The St. Louis Cardinals have traded veteran middle infielder Max Muncy to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for AAA minor-league right-hander Warren Wilder.
The 27-year-old Wilder has spent this season at AAA Toledo, posting nine saves in 13 appearances with a 0.00 ERA and no decisions.
He has pitched in 23 major-league games for the Tigers, going 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA.
St. Louis signed Muncy in the offseason as depth in the middle infielder.
He started the season at AAA Memphis and played well -- hitting .259 with three homers and nine RBIs in 16 games -- but struggled in the majors.
In six games/five starts, he hit .062 with no homers or RBIs.
He also complained about a lack of playing time.
With the team's middle infield pretty much set, he needed to go.
