Dark-Dalton Farm to Meet for 17th SPA Series

The Dark Bloodworms of the NWL and the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers of the Vim! League will meet for the 17th SPA Series. The Bloodworms are making their first appearance, defeating the Victory Cave Crickets in seven games. It was Dark's second Nuka Series appearance and first championship in their 19-year history. The Fog Crawlers are old pros in the SPA Series, making their 6th appearance with five titles, including 2316 when they defeated Quartz in seven games.

Dark was not dominant like their opponent is but efficient in what they do. The Bloodworms finished 5th in the Nuka World League in runs scored (484) and 2nd in runs allowed (426). Top offensive stars were LF Everlast Barron (.321/19/57) and C Haymaker Abernathy (.373/14/43). SP Petyr Littlefinger (10-4, 3.47) has been their best pitcher. Goofy Chambers (5-3, 3.00) offers the best support from the bullpen.

Dalton Farm finished 1st in the Vim! League in runs scored (621) and runs allowed (468). On offense, top performers were 1B Tick Garrett (.349/15/74) and SS Gus Hangman (.329/16/69). All-time hitter. LF Toppie Gunn (.293/17/55) offers support. SP Fick Aragvsky (14-1, 4.07) was the top starter, with help in the bullpen from CL Lionel Minelli (14 SV, 3.89).

This series may not be close. We're taking the Fog Crawlers to dominate for their second-straight SPA Series victory. Dalton Farm 4, Dark 1

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL and APL

by Evan Guy

NWL Playoffs

Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.

It was the latter case in 2317, as the Dark Bloodworms topped the Victory Cave Crickets 16-5 tonight at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field to win the Nuka Series. It was the 1st title in franchise history.

"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Dark left fielder Everlast Barron, who was named series MVP.

The Bloodworms took the series 4-3. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the South Bradberton Division and a 52-38 record.

Dark manager Tame Paul Williams grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Barron's words.

"Everlast said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.

Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.

APL Playoffs

This is the time of the baseball season when grown men are reduced to tears. This year, the Nuka Bottling Plant Pack were shedding tears of joy and the Grandchester Flying Ants those of sorrow.

The Pack topped the Flying Ants today 6-2 at Grandchester Mystery Mansion Park and locked up their 4th Amusement Park League Amusement Park Series championship, winning the series 4-2.

"To come this far and leave empty-handed is not easy," said Grandchester manager Billy Daulton.

The Pack finished the regular season in the APL North Division with a 32-28 record, ending up in first place in the division standings.

Vim! League Playoffs

It was all about winning for the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers -- and win they did.

There was nothing fancy in how they went about it, players said, they just prepared mentally and physically and then went out and played baseball.

"We did the little things right and we did the big things right," said shortstop Gus Hangman, who was named series MVP. "Now we're the league champions."

Dalton Farm defeated the Grand Hotel Atoms by a score of 6-3 at Blood Tide Stadium to take the series 4-2.

"Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make your own luck," said Dalton Farm manager Greg Hammerberg. "We got lucky a few times, but mostly we did the right things by being prepared for each game and playing the game the way it's meant to be played."

MDIL Playoffs

With a 17-6 win over the Rock Point Barnacles at The Lumber Yard today, the MS Azalea Shipwrecks wrapped up their 4th title in team history.

The Shipwrecks left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said MS Azalea manager Plow Holdgun. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as MS Azalea celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.

"I hope they have a big celebration," Rock Point manager Bearskin Melton said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."
