BLOWOUTS DOMINATE DAY 2 OF WBC
Favorites Venezuela, Mexico stay unbeaten

The two biggest favorites to make the finals, Japan and the United States, both had the day off on the second day of pool play in the WBC. Besides the 10-inning thriller between the Canadians and Puerto Rico that ended on Bo Naylor's RBI double to score his older brother Josh, there was little intrigue to speak of.

South Korea, Colombia, and Cuba all won in shutout, blowout fashion, combining to win their games 31-0. South Korea posted the biggest margin of victory, winning a 13-0 romp over Czechia, with Cuba's 11-0 win over Spain the second-biggest.

Colombia's 7-0 win over Israel was not as impressive as the others, but it may have contained one of the more impressive pitching performances in the history of the event -- Luis Patino tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out thirteen.

Mexico and Venezuela both moved to 2-0 with two-run victories. 18-year-old Kendry Chourio, one of Kansas City's top pitching prospects, tossed six shutout frames against the Netherlands, allowing just one hit and two walks with five strikeouts.

"Man, they're really getting a good one," said Netherlands skipper and newly-minted Hall-of-Famer Andruw Jones, who is managing the Dutch squad, of Chourio. "He pitches beyond what his years may indicate."

The U.S. is back in action tomorrow against Great Britain to try and avenge their early loss, while the most anticipated game of the day will be the Japan-South Korea matchup. Mexico will also look to move to 3-0 as they'll face a China team that has held their own in early games (both defeats) despite not having much in the way of professional talent.
