Cards news: June 24 -- 3B Almeyda sent to Phillies for 2B Cunningham
The St. Louis Cardinals had high hopes when they acquired 3B Luis Almeyda from the Los Angeles Angels in the offseason.
But they quickly evaporated.
After a decent April -- where he batted .247 with four home runs and 12 RBIs -- his production has dropped off the table.
Through 68 games/66 starts, he is hitting .214 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs.
With free agency looming at the conclusion of the season, and the team falling out of contention, the Cardinals decided to cut ties.
They didn't get nothing for him landing second baseman Kayson Cunningham from Philadelphia.
The 26-year-old is a two-time All-Star selection and is hitting .288 with three home runs and 28 RBIs through 69 games/65 starts this season.
