August 13-15, 2040: at LA Angels (3)
Stop me if you've heard this before: the Rays won 2 of 3 in Anaheim, the fifth straight 3-game series they've done so.
They took the opener from the Angels 6-3 behind Danny Morales (11-9), who went 5 3 2 2 2 6 and Victor Gonzalez, who belted a 2-run homer (#32) to put them ahead to stay. Ray Green added a solo shot (#6).
LA took the middle game from Tampa Bay 4-3 with a pair of runs in the 7th. Ruben Cerrillo (12-6) nursed a 3-2 lead into that frame but allowed the tying run and put another man on 3rd, and although the heretofore-untouchable Jose Rodriguez came on looking for the strikeout, the reliever allowed the go-ahead single and left Cerrillo with a 6.2 8 4 3 2 2 line.
The Rays took the rubber game behind a trio of homers as they downed the Angels 6-4. Billy Doughty (#11), Isaac Gardener (#4) and Tony Fisher (#10) all went yard and Ray Green hit a tie-breaking 2-run single in the 4th. Aiden White (1-0) got his first Rays win with a solid 6.1 6 3 3 2 2 outing and Eric Lewis once again was anything but clean in the 9th, loading the bases, but escaped the jam for his 26th save.
Team record: 83-37. Next up: Off to the Bronx for 4 games against the Yankees.
