My excuse here is a narrative where the Cincinnati baseball team has a normal early 20th century baseball name, and is terrible for years, then suddenly wins the pennant in 1914, after a newspaper column declares "they have as much chance of surviving as the last passenger pigeon". Basically the exact story of the 1914 Boston Braves.

Pretty proud of my idea to leave the bird drawing unfinished in the middle of the logo to suggest that it is disappearing. I used the same colors so that Carolina can be a minor league team of Cincinnati in my league.

Have been unable to come up with a crossover for Iggy Pop and the passenger pigeon

Apparently before 1914 the Cincinnati team was officially known as the Eagles, but colloquially as the Double-heads or Doubles. Cincinnati is well known for its German-Americans. They would have had to change their symbol for WWI anyway, lucky for them that mid-season newspaper headline "The Eagles have as much chance of surviving as the passenger pigeon."

My 40 team league is in 2085, so I'm slowly making early baseball identities for the next project. Plus the early ones let me be "intentionally crude", ie, I just draw the thing once and don't suffer over editing it too much. I try to emulate the 1901 Detroit Tigers.
