Recently began having a similar issue.
On the latest patch btw.
Happens when there is any period of no games. This latest case happened when siming between end of season and beginning of the playoffs. Just crashed on me. Thankfully, the game seems to have saved because my playoff roster changes were still there.
The first time this happened it was during the all star break iirc.
I know this original post is a few weeks old, but figured I'd reply and bump since I too have a similar issue.
