North Carolina State League set to add North Wilkesboro club
The North Carolina State League has found a replacement for the Lenoir Red Sox, who left in the off-season to join the new Western Carolina League. The NCLS will add the
North Wilkesboro Flashers as its 10th member.
This is the first season for professional baseball in Wilkes County. The team will play home games in Memorial Park (capacity 2,050).
Why Flashers? The team is named for its manager Harry Lohman, who is referred to affectionately as “Flash.” (Note: this is all real stuff).
This will be the North Carolina State League lineup for 1948:
Albemarle Rockets (formerly Landis Millers)
Concord Weavers (3x champions)
Hickory Rebels
High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms (formerly Thomasville Dodgers)
Lexington A’s
Mooresville Moors
Mount Airy Graniteers
North Wilkesboro Flashers (new team)
Salisbury Pirates
Statesville Owls
