Gerhard Zech's 26th fight.... 1963-06-27, Munich, Germany

Robert Duquesne - 1 Overall Rating
Nationality- France
b. 1931-04-28
d.
Career, 1954-65
BoxRec. 028317
Record 28 wins / 16 losses / 2 draws / 18 KO

The early part of Duquesne's record was really not all that awe inspiring. From 1954-57 he compiled a 14-7-2 record against not much in the line of any competition. He drew with an Antonio Crosia(10-2-0), lost a 4 round decision to Hand Kalbfell(4-0-0) and later beat Kalbfell in an 8 round decision. He managed a decision win against an Emile Vidal(15-0-0) but lost fights to Alain Cherville and lost consectutive fights in early 1957 to an Erich Schoppner(10-0-1) and to Brian London(15-2-0) with London KO'ing Duquesne in the 1st round.

Apparently France did not have much in the line of quality heavyweight fighters at the time as he got to square off against Emile Vidal 3 months after his KO to London, for the French HW Title. Duquesne became Frances HW Champion with an 11th round TKO. In 1958 he defended his crown twice against Max Brianto(9-1-1) and Emile Vidal before loosing the French crown to Francis Magnetto(5-3-0) in 1959 by KO. During that time he was also KO'd in the 3rd round in a fight with Franco Cavicchi. After loosing his French Title he lost an 8 round decision to Ulli Nitzschke, won 3 other fights and then defeated Max Brianto in Oct. 1960 to regain the French HW Title. He defended the title once against Magnetto(8-7-0 at the time to notice again the real lack of HW competition in France apparently).

From 1961-63 he beat Plinio Scarabellin(25-1-0), lost to Sante Amonti(40-3-2) and beat Werner Weigand(39-19-5) and Yao Kouame(19-5-4) to set up his fight with Gerhard Zech.

Gerhard won a 1st round TKO against Duquesne on June 27, 1963. Robert did not fight again until March 1965 when he went up to defend his French HW Title against Jean-Paul Schiller(19-3-1). Schiller dispatched Duquesne into retirement with a 2nd round KO.

Duquesne's career really was not impressive once you look into his list of opponents. I actually got him rated such that if you replay him against 1-3 rated fighters in the game he should on the average unplay his career record a bit. Closer to a .500 record with a tad fewer KO's by him. I did that because simply the majority of his opponents don't stack up against what's in the game, even the 1 fighters for the most part.

As mentioned above back in 1963, Zech dispatched Duquesne in the 1st round with a TKO. In our replay, Zech handled Duquesne pretty easily. It did last till the 3rd round though. Zech punch his way to easy wins in the first 2 rounds, quickly wearing Robert down. He kept the pressure up into the 3rd round and finally at the 2:25 mark, with Duquesne bloodied and cut bad around the face, the referee stopped the fight, giving Zech a TKO victory.
This is the first fight by the way I set Zech for his PRime stage.

So, Gerhard is now 25-1-0 with 17KO and ready to step into the ring and challenge Albert Westphal for the German Heavyweight Title!

I'm looking forward to rating Westphal and adding him into the game. If you look at his record and opponents, I feel he belongs in there right up with Zech, Blin and Mildenberger as not only one of the top German but top European HW's of his day.

So we'll see you next on Sept. 27th, 1963 in Hamburg, Germany to see the match up of two German Heayweights, Gerhard Zech(25-1-0) vs Albert Westphal(29-10-5).....

See ya then!
