Getting back on track here with the Gerhard Zech replay. Actually got 5 bouts in a row with opponents that we have in the game now so I've gone ahead and played through all 5 and will give you the results here.......

Gerhard Zech's 30th fight 1964-03-06, Madison Square Garden

Gerhard Zech (28-1-0) vs Ernie Terrell (32-4-0)
This will actually be Zech's first and only fight outside of Europe! Its only his 2nd outside of Germany for that matter. We all know about Ernie Terrell, so no introduction needed. A scheduled 10 round fight that ended in a 10 round decision loss for Gerhard.

A wild fight that went back and forth with a wild finish in our replay! Terrell puts Zech down for a 6 count in the 10th round. AT that point, even though Zech made it back up to finish the round, I thought Terrell had it won. But what happens?! A MAJORITY DRAW!! J1 scores it 95-95, J2 scores 97-93 Terrell, J3 scores 95-95 Draw. I couldn't believe it. My first draw in this replay and it's an MD against Terrell!

Next up Gerhard Zech's 31st fight 1964-05-08, Berlin, Germany

Zech (28-1-1) vs Federico Friso (23-27-7)

This is Friso's last career fight. Zech won an 8 round decision in this fight in '64.
In the replay, Zech controls the fight pretty much from start to finish except for a suprise for seconds in the 5th when Friso drops Zech for a 7 count. It's the only time either fighter goes down.
Gerhard wins a UD 78-73, 78-73, 78-73.

Gerhard Zech's 32nd fight 1964-11-14, Dortmund, Germany

Zech (29-1-1) vs Zora Folley (67-7-4)

Folley, a top ranked HW for much of the 50's and 60's is in the limelight of his career, though he'll put up a few more bouts after this one with Zech. Back in 64, Folley came up with a big victory, KO'ing the German in the 4th round!

In our replay, of this scheduled 10 round fight, Gerhard first puts Folley down for a 6 count in the 3rd round. Zech is not having too much trouble winning the first 6 rounds when suddenly Folley puts Zech to the canvas for a 9 count! Zech survives that and comes back in the 8th. With a big hook, he opens up a gash over Folley's right eye and then at the 0:55 mark of the 8th, the ref ends it for a TKO win for Zech!

Gerhard Zech's 33rd fight 1965-01-22, Frankfurt, Germany

Zech (30-1-1) vs Wim Snoek (47-23-4)

Snoek, the Dutch HW Champion in the 60's, appeared overmatched in this fight. Gerhard KO'd Snoek in the 8th round in 1965.
In our replay(scheduled it 10 rounds), Snoek started out fast to take an advantage after the 1st round. Things were even in the 2nd. After that, Gerhard quit fooling around and took control. Snoek goes down for a 6 count in the 7th. Then in the 9th, Snoek goes down again for a 9 count early in the round. The fight then is stopped at the 2:53 mark for a TKO victory for Zech.

Gerhard Zech's 34th fight 1965-03-06, Hannover, Germany

Zech (31-1-1) vs Joe Bygraves (42-26-1)

Bygraves after putting up a lot of victories in the early part of his career is going into the down swing of the career when he's fighting a good number of the top HW's around and not with a lot of success. In 1965 these two go a full 10 round scheduled fight with Zech coming out with the decision win.

In our replay, not much Bygraves can do as he goes down for a 6 count in the 4th and then in the 6th, Gerhard first decks Bygraves for an 8 count, Joe gets up but is pretty much finished as Gerhard gives him a big right hand and puts Joe out for good with a KO finish at the 2:24 mark of the 6th round.

With that quick flurry of fights completed a quick recap of Zech's record....

In real life up to this time, Gerhard was 30-3-1 with 12 KO's and 7 TKO's to his record.

In our replay, he's 32-1-1 with 9 KO's and 13 TKO's. Close numbers. After a couple of journeymens coming up in his next 2 fights, we'll begin to see him up against some much tougher competition.

Next up will be a Joe Shelton 13-14-2(8 KO) liftetime. Biggest fights in Shelton's career are 2 against Gerhard, one with Mariano Echevarria and a couple against Hubert Hilton as far as his most recognizable opponents.

After that comes Dave Bailey who is 18-20-3 (11KO) career. A guy with a little bit of punch, but looks to go down himself a bit. Bailey's opponents include Cleveland Williams, Eddie Machen, George Chuvalo, Karl Mildenberger, Zech, Buddy Turman, Sonny Liston, Peter Weiland, Jurgen Blin.

So a couple of new HW's I'll start working on that have some interesting looks to them.

See you next time in Frankfurt, Germany on May 14th, 1965 for Gerhard Zech (32-1-1) vs Joe Shelton (8-7-2).
