The next pair of Norton opponents have been rated and tested as Norton continues his early career odyssey through the ranks of the west coast heavyweights, including Jimmy Gilmore the first non 1 rated opponent (though only his chin gets him a two
). Well on to the main event....
The Third Fight
Dutra looks like Norton's first credible opponent with an imposing 7-0-0 (7) record when he fights Norton with all except one of his KO's are in the first or second round. The fight before Norton was against fellow Norton opponent Sam Wyatt which ended in a 3rd round KO win for Dutra. He would loose to Norton by KO and his arua was vaporised which led him loosing his next two fights by KO before meandering his way to a short gloryless career.
None of the fighters before or after Wyatt and Norton are in the game. His career finished in 1973 though he came back for one bout in 1980 which he lost a Technical Decision from an accidental headbut.

The Fourth Fight
Jimmy Gilmore 5-17-0 (4)
Gilmore was a mediocre 2-4-0 (2) when he fights Norton (Norton by KO in the 7th). He fights Sam Wyatt and Mac Foster in his first two fights (looses to Wyatt on points, looses to Foster by 3rd round KO), also fights Harold Dutra two fights after Norton and wins with a KO in the fifth. He fights for the California HW crown in '68 but otherwise he looks like he is a good opponent rather than a particularly capable boxer, though would worry some with his reasonable power.
