A few 60's Journeyman HW's

Dick Wipperman - USA
1961-68
32 wins / 14 losses / 1 draw / 16 KO

Dick Wipperman built up an impressive 29-2-2 record from 1961 to mid 1964 against the array of punching bags and club fighters who don't amount to much. Then in October and November of 1964 and January of 1965 he fought successive fights against James J. Beattie, Oscar Bonavena and Henry Cooper. He was KO'd in 7 by Beattie, lost a 10 round UD to Bonavena and was TKO'd in 5 by Cooper. This was the beginning of Wipperman's exposure of being not much more then maybe a club heavyweight fighter himself. Interesting thing though he still got matched up with some of the top echelon Heavyweights even after the disasters with Beattie, Bonavena and Cooper. Trouble was, he continued to show he could no way match up with them.

AFter the Cooper fight, he rang up 4 more wins against nobodys, then he got a fight with a young new heavyweight on the scene by the name of Joe Frazier. Wipperman and Frazier went at it in March 1966. It was Frazier's 6th professional fight. It all ended it another 5th round TKO loss for Wipperman. After that he fought some guy name Ted Fletcher who was fighting his first professional fight. Wipperman managed to KO Fletcher in the 6th in June 1966. For what ever reason the two fought again 2 months later in Quebec, Canada. TKO win in 8 for Wipperman who's now 32-6-1.

That's all she wrote for Wipperman's career as he then from late 66 thru to Sept. 1968 looses his last 8 fights, 4 by knockout. He's KO'd twice in straight fights by George Chuvalo, then looses two 10 round decisions to James J. Beattie and another 10 round decision to Alvin (Blue) Lewis. Wipperman then is Ko'd in straight fights by Bob Felstein and Tony Ventura before he hangs up the gloves after another 10 round decision loss, this time to Buster Mathis, him Sept. 1968.

Two destinct careers. 32-2-1, 16KO's against the bottom of the heavyweight barrel and 0-12-0 with all 7 of his career stoppages against the mid to upper level of the barrel.

Enjoy.....
