Rating some "Tomato Cans".....
Don Ellis - United States
Light Heavyweight 1945-57.
13 wins / 30 losses / 11 draws / 0 KO
Hometown: Atlantic City, NJ
Birthplace: Washington, DC
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
A boxer with good staying power and a great chin being stopped only 3 times in 54 fights. Lacked any kind of punch though apparently as he recored "0" KO's in 13 wins.
Ellis' only win of any note was actually his 3rd to last career fight, a 6 round decision win over Albert Westphal who was fighting in his 9th fight. He also managed a 6 round draw with German Middleweight, Peter Muller and a 10 round draw with German Middleweight, Franz Szuzina.
Noteable losses were a 6 round decision to Holly Mims, a 1st round KO by Sugar Ray Robinson in April 1951, an 8 round decision to Karl Schmidt, a 10 round decision to Hans Strtz, a 10 round decision to Conny Rux, a 10 round decision to Charles Humez, an 8 round decision to Alessandro D'Ottavio, 2 consecutive 8 round decisions to Erwin Hack, a 10 round decision to Germinal Ballarin, a 10 rounder to Wim Snoek, an 8 rounder to Willi Besmanoff, a 10 rounder to Rocco Mazzola and finally a 10 round decision loss to Johnny Halafihi to finish his career.
Quite a few names that have been rated into the game that Ellis fought to the distance in most cases. Lack again of any kind of punch apparently though usually put him on the short end of a decision.
