Here's a guy whose name I kept running across looking at other fighters and finally decided to get around to rating him to add to the stable of European fighters.
Paul Roux - France
Light Heavyweight 1957-71
61 wins / 16 losses / 4 draws / 13 KO
Hometown: St. Quentin, France
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
BoxRec lists him as a Heavyweight, but he attained his most success by far as a Light Heavyweight. A pretty good chin he had as he suffered only 4 KO's in his career. He was not a knockout artist himself though as his 13 KO's in 82 fights would attest, but he had longevity in the ring going 10 plus rounds in many fights.
Against some of the guys that have been rated into the game he defeated Michel Dinot, Joseph Landsheere, Francois Kania twice, Erwin Hack twice, Germinal Ballarin, Pekka Kokkonen, Jose Peyre and Mariano Echevarria. He also fought a 15 round draw with Ballarin and a 10 round fight with Peter Muller that ended in a no contest decision.
He suffered losses to Erich Schoppner, Gustav Scholtz, Yvan Prebeg, Wilhelm von Homburg.
In October 1959 he fought a 15 round decision over Charles Colin(17-9-3,12) to win the French LHW Title. Roux held the French LHW Title till December 1963 loosing it to Bernard Quellier(9-15-3,8) in an 11th round KO. In between that time he fought numerous times defending his Light Heavyweight Title, defeating Gilbert Chapron(18-3-2,11), Wladislas Kopec(16-8-2,10), Germinal Ballarin(61-16-11,32), and Jo Juvillier(14-14-3,5). He also fought draws with Charles Colin, Ballarin, Michel Vinot(37-8-3,22) and Quellier.
In between all that in Feb. 1961 he fought Erich Schoppner for the European Light Heavyweight Title, loosing by 13th round TKO to Schoppner.
After loosing the French title to Quellier in Dec. 1963, those two fought a rematch in April 1964 with Roux winning back the French LHW Title with a 15 round decision. The very next month in May Roux lost the title a 2nd time, this time to MIchel Vinot in a 12 round decision. In March 1965, Roux won the French LHW Title a 3rd time, defeating Vinot in another 12 round decision. Roux successfully defended his title in Jan. 1966 against Quellier before loosing the title again in December 1966, this time to Bernard Thebault(15-3-0,7), this time by way of a 4th round disqualification.Thebault beat Roux in a rematch in June 1967 in a 15 round decision. That was Roux last challenge for the French LHW Title, though he continued on to fight till 1971 compiling a 10-2 record in the twilite of his career.
