Load Times

I guess I don't believe for minute that it's a real problem, for me it's simply something I can't understand: load times of over 2 1/2 - 3 minutes when you start the game. I don't know why other games (just as complex or more) can load more quickly, and I equally understand I shouting at the microwave, spoiled rotten with 21st century impatience.

Will these load times ever improve?

for ootbb 2006, no. for future versions, I also think not, Marcus seems to like getting everything loaded right at the beginning to make the in game experance faster, I don't really see him changing that programing ideal, but my crystal ball is in the shop this week so that's just a guess.

There's always one solution almost guaranteed to help load times: Buy more RAM.

I'm sitting at over 1gig. What's your suggestion?

Then something's wrong. I run 512MB RAM on a 2.66GHz processor, and I think I get it to load in 45 seconds give or take...though it probably takes longer if you're loading a 50+ year league.

What do you have running at the same time? Can you examine taskmgr and post a screenie? I have 2.4 GHZ CPU, 1 gig of RAM, and can load the game in 22 seconds, and open large leagues in about 1 minute.

I have a .7 GHZ CPU and 1 gig of RAM. It takes me just over a minute to start the game up, and only a few seconds to load a large, but new, league.

My (Mac) version of the game came with the warning that NOTHING could be run at the same time as OOTP, including firewalls. It said to shut absolutely everything down before starting the game, and I've done my best to follow that instruction.

Thanks for the input to all. I'll provide that info late tonight for you to digest over the weekend. Maybe I am missing something, but before I launch the game, I always close all my open programs, including my AV (which historically has been linked to saving errors). I can't imagine what could be holding it up, but I'll let your greater minds sort it out once you have the screenie to view. Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Thanks, RonCo. I've about the same processing speed, but with the larger RAM. As noted above, I'll put up a Task Manager screenshot later tonight. But in addition, the league I'm loading is currently in Spring Training. As I write this, I'm thinking - wondering - if the use of photos and logos would affect it by that much. Think that's possible? I do use photos for all and custom logos for the major leagues. Could that possibly increase the load threefold? Hmmm....

Here's a couple of screenshots from Task Manager. I noticed immediately that Panda, even though Automatic Protection is closed, is still showing active in the Processes but I don't know why. IIRC, the CCAPP is also a file related to the AV program. Obviously, if this is the case, it's a matter of getting it to shutdown completely. That might help, or be more work than the benefit merits. Nonetheless:

you might want to run a full system scan at www.pcpitstop.com. The results will give you a list of the apps running on your PC and will give you info on what is non-essential along with instructions how to disable them so they don't start up when you start up your PC.
