Minor league players in historical
I'm just now trying out historical leagues and have a question. The question is what happens to players in the minor league? I wanted to start a league in 1978 with the Tigers. I tried this yesterday with only AAA but this doesn't seem right. If I create all levels will the minors populate with the correct players? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The historical database contains only players who made it to the MLB. There is a modified database that can be used to add a lot of minor leaguers who never made it to the majors, but it's not going to be enough to populate all the levels.
You have two options unless this has been changed recently: one is to populate your minors with fictional players but block them from reaching the major leagues; the other is to simply use fewer levels of minors and use the ghost players option to round them out. Personally, I usually use the reserve list. Players will develop on the reserve list just as they would in the minors. Sometimes I've used the AAA level of minors as well. Beyond that, the historical database is not going to make it very meaningful to have additional levels. |

Thank you for the response. I think I may have gotten confused because Kirk Gibson was part of the Tigers minor league system but wasn't put in the game. Probably because he wasn't drafted until 78?
I kind of want stats so that is why I'm going AAA instead of reserve. Thanks. |

To clarify, the default database only debuts players in the year when they made the majors. So you won't have Gibson until the year he actually made his debut for the Tigers. Unless you use an alternative database, you won't get the prospects in AAA unless they had already appeared in the majors in real life.

Try the Spritze HS database.
All players including many guys who only played in the minors will enter your universe as 18 year olds no matter when they actually made the show. Or the Gambo/Spritze DB. I believe you get players when they were drafted with that one. |

Thanks all for the input. I think I'm slowly getting it. I did a little more research and experimentation and found I'm going to try AAA with ghost players enabled to get stats but not all the filler. I did notice the guys in the minor leagues were in the draft the following year (if they entered MLB). Baseball Reference became my friend. Thanks again.
