The first column in player info reports is for......?

I've never paid much attention to the first column which is just a circle that fills in when you click on it but which I can't find an actual use for. It's the only column that doesn't give you a description of what it is when you hover over the header and I can't find a mention of it in the OOTP 24 manual. What is this for and how is it helpful?

It lets you select the player so if you wanted to select 5 guys and then right click to perform an action for all 5 guys at once it works instead of having to select each guy individually.

It's very helpful when scouting the draft list to go down and pick say 5 to 10 guys who are average or below in scout rating.

And if you hit the very top circle (in the header), it selects everyone shown in one click for said right-click, do-this-thing-everyone action.

I am still hoping a revised manual will be forthcoming this summer.
