2025 NFL Season Wagering Game
I am going to give myself $500 in play money and wager on every game in the 2025 NFL season against the spread and try to end up with as much money as possible. Feel free to play along if you like. You can even come in the game midway in the season if you feel like it.

I look forward to it. I used to be a heavy gambler back in the mid 90s. I'll be happy to play make believe today.

I mean if you're predicting an underdog to win straight up, go for moneyline instead, yeh? Especially if you picture one of the dogs to win by double digits

That's risky. According to a few of the gambling sites, any dog +115 or more wins outright 1/3 of the time. I think you're better off with the points.

Well, that's a tough way to start on a $20 wager. The Eagles win the game but lose agianst the spread. Hopefully I can make it up on the other games!

You were right!
Well, after the early week 1 games I was able to recover, I am at $510 (not couning the Jaguars/Panthers game which isn't over yet but is looking good for me) so all is well so far. Update: I am 7-6 going into sunday night and up $20 overall. Not bad considering week 1 is hard to predict usually. All favorites won on the 4 sunday afternoon games and I picked 3 underdogs so that didn't help Last edited by monkeyman576; 09-07-2025 at 08:33 PM. |

I finished week 1 up $20 with an 8-7 overall record vs. the spread. Not a bad week 1.
Week 2 Bankroll = $520 Packers(-3.5) 24 vs. Commanders ($10) 17 - WON - (Packers by 9) - Packers were dominant in their week 1 game. ($530) Jaguars(+3.5) 19, Bengals 17 ($5) - LOSS - (Bengals by 4) Bengals have a scary offense but Lawrence and Hunter look like a potent combo in this upset pick. ($525) Bills(-7.5) 34, at Jets 14 ($20) - WON - (Bills by 20) In my eyes this is a great team against a poor team game ripe for a blowout. ($545) Seahawks(+2.5) 19 at Steelers 12($10) - WON - (Seahawks by 14) Although the Seahawks aren't traditionally as good on the road as at home, they held their own against a premier 49ers team in week 1. - ($555) Rams 17(-5.5) at Titans 10($5) - WON - (Rams by 14) Rams should contend for the NFC West title this year, and Cam Ward had a less than spectacular opener. ($560) Saints 21 (+7.5) vs. 49ers($5) 23 - WON - (49ers by 5) - I'll take the road dog here as the 49ers kept the Seahawks in a week 1 game they should have dominated more. ($565) Bears 24 (+5.5) at Lions 27($5) - WON - (Lions by 31) NFC North battles usually tend to be close and competitive. ($570) Cowboys 34(-3.5) at Giants 10($20) - LOSS - (Cowboys by 3) Cowboys kept things close against the defending champs last week, Prescott looks improved so I don't think this will be close as Giants are looking to draft Manning more than anything. ($550) Dolphins 14 (-1.5) vs. Patriots 10 ($5) - LOSS - (Patriots by 6) - This is basically a toss up in my eyes but the Patriots looked pretty underwhelming last week.($545) Browns 17(+12.5) at Ravens 20($5) - LOSS - (Ravens by 24) - The Ravens lost a game they should have won last week, albiet against a super bowl hungry Bills team.($540) Cardinals 17(-6.5) vs. Panthers 9($5) - LOSS - (Cardinals by 5) Two bottom half of the league teams here, but the Cardinals have more upside. - ($535) Broncos 24(-2.5), at Colts 17($5) - LOSS - (Colts by 1) Broncos have AFC West aspirations, and Colts have questions at quarterback. ($530) Eagles 28(-1.5), at Chiefs 24($5) - WON - (Eagles by 3) Super bowl rematch but Eagles won opener and Cheifs did not ($535) Vikings 28(-4.5), Falcons 20 ($10) - LOSS - (Falcons by 16) Vikings came back in their monday night football opener to win. ($525) Bucs 24(+1.5), Texans 21(OT) ($5) - WON - (Bucs by 1) Should be a close game but I'll take the home team bucs to edge out the Texans. ($530) Chargers 34(-3.5), at Raiders 24($5) - (chargers by 11 If the Chargers can beat the Chiefs I think they can beat the Raiders. ($535) Total Wagered = $125 Last edited by monkeyman576; 09-16-2025 at 02:13 AM. |

5-4 in the early games and I am up $10 overall. Cowboys/Giants and Jaguars/Bengals were close losses for me. I was 1-1 in $20 wagers. Won Bills/Jets and loss Cowboys/Giants.

I am 1-2 in the afternooon games but I could have easily gone 3-0 as the Colts and Panthers had late 4th quarter pushes. Luckily they were all $5 games so I didn't lose too much. I am up $15 on the week for $535 total bankroll(Started with $500).

I finished 9-7 on the week vs the spread, up $15 on the week and up $35 on the season. On to week 3!
Buffalo(-10.5) vs. Miami - LOSS - (Buffalo by 10) Possible super bowl team vs. a team condending for Manning. ($20) ($515) Tampa Bay(-6.5) at NY Jets - LOSS - (Tampa Bay by 2) The Bucs aren't world beaters but they should be able to handle the lowly Jets. ($10) ($505) Indianapolis(-3.5) at Tennessee($5) - WON - (Indianapolis by 21) - I'm going with the road favorites here as the Colts got a big win against the Broncos last week. ($510) Washington(-5.5) vs. Las Vegas($5) - WON - (Washington by 17) - Daniels is a question mark but the Raiders have been dissapointing in Carrol's first year so far. ($5) ($515) Philadelphia(-3.5) vs. LA Rams($10) - WON - (Philadelphia by 7) - Could be close but the Eagles are on a roll. ($525) Atlanta(-3.5) at Carolina($5)- LOSS - (Atlanta by $30) Falcons came up with a big win against the Vikings - ($520) Jacksonville(-1.5) vs. Houston($5) - WON - (Jacksonville by 7) - Continuing with my trend of favorites this week, I like what Lawrence and Hunter are doing in Jacksonville. ($525) Green Bay(-8.5) at Cleveland($40) - LOSS - (Cleveland by 3) - This is going to be my big $40 bet this week, the Packers are looking like odds on Super Bowl champions. ($485) Pittsburgh(-1.5) at New England($5) - WON - (Pittsburgh by 7) - The game against the Seahawks would have been a lot closer if not for the kickoff gaffe. I'm betting that doesn't happen again. ($490) Minnesota(-3.5) vs. Cincinnati($20) - WON - (Minnesota by 38) - Burrow is out 3 months that doesn't look good for the Bengals.($510) LA Chargers(-2.5) vs. Denver($5) - WON (Los Angeles by 3)Is this finally the chargers year? ($515) Seattle(-7.5) vs. New Orleans($10) - WON - (Seattle by 31) Seahawks are looking like one of the top defensive teams overall, the question is their offensive line. ($525) San Francisco(-1.5) vs. Arizona($10) - LOSS - (San Francisco by 1) NFC West is very deep and the Cardinals could upset but 49ers look like a good team. ($515) Dallas(+1.5) at Chicago($5)- LOSS - (Bears by 17) - Breaking the favorites trend but I think the Cowboys got a wakeup call against the NY Giants. ($510) Kansas City(-6.5) at NY Giants($20) WON - (Kansas City by 13) - Chiefs have been underperforming but this looks like an opportunity to right the ship. ($530) Detroit(+5.5) at Baltimore($5) - WON - (Detroit by 8) Both teams are really good and I think it will be closer than 5 points. ($535) Total Bet = $180 - Betting $180 instead of my previous high of $125 after two winning weeks in a row is giving me confidence in my methodology. 4-2 in the late/SNF/MNF games so I ended up even on the week moneywise and 10-5 overall on the week so the theme of the week is Green Bay dissapointed me with my big $40 bet but I was good on my overall win loss record and at least I didn't lose for the week.
Week 4 - Total Bankroll = $535 Seattle(+1.5) at Arizona - WON - (Seattle by 3) The seahawks are the dogs here but they are on a run having won their last two. $10 ($545) Minnesota(-1.5) at Pittsburgh - LOSS - (Pittsburgh by 3) The Steelers are tough at home but Minnesota has the better roster I think. Good matchup though. $5 ($540) NY Giants(+6.5) at LA Chargers - WON - (NY Giants by 3) Chargers have played some close games so far and Russel Wilson may be motivated by being bood. Edit: Russ obviously not the starter anymore but it could still be a close game. $5 ($545) Houston(-6.5) vs. Tennessee - WON - (Houston by 26) Titans are having typical first year quarterback struggles with Ward. $10 ($555) Washington(-1.5) at Atlanta - LOSS - (Atlanta by 7) The Commanders will have to show what they're made of as road favorites but I think they are up to the task. $10 ($545) Buffalo(-15.5) vs. New Orleans - LOSS - (Buffalo by 12) Big spread and sometimes dogs like this can be motivated(see Cleveland) but I am going to play the odds here. $40 ($505) Tampa Bay(+3.5) at Philadelphia - LOSS - (Philadelphia by 6) Eagles seem due for a down game. Just a gut feeling $5 ($500) Detroit(-7.5) vs. Cleveland - WON - (Detroit by 24) - The Browns are on a high after beating Green Bay but Detroit won't make the same mistake $40 - ($540) Carolina(+4.5) at New England - LOSS - (New England by 29) My gut says close game. $5 ($535) Jacksonville(+3.5) at San Francisco - WON - (Jacksonville by 5) The Jaguars have been over performing a bit and 49ers have not blown anyone out. $10 ($545) LA Rams(-3.5) vs. Indianapolis - WON - (LA Rams by 7) - Colts are lucky to be 3-0 right now. $5 ($550) Kansas City(-2.5) vs. Baltimore - WON - (Kansas City by 17) - Two surprising 1-2 teams I think the Chiefs need this more than the Ravens. $5 ($555) Chicago(-1.5) at Las Vegas - LOSS - (Chicago by 1) Will probably be a typical low scoring close game between two below average offenses but Williams > Smith. $5 ($550) Green Bay(-6.5) at Dallas - LOSS - (TIE) Dallas is worse than everyone thought. Parsons will want to show the Cowboys were wrong to trade him. $60 ($490) NY Jets(+2.5) at Miami - LOSS - (Miami by 6) - Two bad teams, Jets seem to have more pride at first glance. $5 ($485) Denver(-7.5) at Cincinnati - WON - (Denver by 25) Could be closer than the spread indicates but Cincinatti minus Burrow has not been very good. $40 ($525) Total Bet = $260 Yes it's a lot to bet but I think there are a lot of good team vs. bad team games this week that I want to capitalize on. Lost two big bets in the Green Bay and Buffalo games but won the other two big bets so didn't lose too much in the end and I'm still up overall.
Week 5 Bankroll - $525 LA Rams(-8.5) at San Francisco - LOSS - (49ers by 3) Two teams battling for playoff spots should be close. Edit: Switching this bet to the Rams on Purdy injury news. $5 - $520 Minnesota(-3.5) at Cleveland - WON - (Vikings by 4) - MCleveland is a tough place to play but Vikings should be able to pull away I think $10 ($530) Houston(+3.5) at Baltimore - WON - (Texans by 34) - A lot rides on Jackson's health(I may change this bet later on) but Houston has not been blown out of any games. $5 ($535) NY Giants(+1.5) at New Orleans - LOSS - (Saints by 12) I'm actually surprised the Giants are dogs after Jaxson Darts surprising debut. $20 ($515) Las Vegas(+6.5) at Indianapolis - LOSS - (Colts by 34) Still feel like the Colts aren't as good as their record. $5 ($510) Seattle(-3.5) at Tampa Bay LOSS (Tampa Bay by 3) - Seahawks could be a sleeper this year. $20 - ($490) Arizona(-9.5) vs. Tennessee - LOSS (Tennessee by 1) - Feel like this game could be a trap but Murray is quietly having a decent season so far. $5 ($485) LA Chargers(-2.5) vs. Washington - LOSS (Washington by 17) A long way for Washington to travel. $5 ($480) New England(+7.5) at Buffalo - WON (New England by 3) I've heard that New England has "no chance" in this game but they have scored 30+ points in 2 of their last 3 games and Buffalo's defense hasn't been great. There is a decent chance it could at least be close. $5 ($485) Kansas City(-3.5) at Jacksonville - LOSS (Jacksonville by 3) - Chiefs have to know they need to start playing better. 2 of Jacksonville's wins have been against the Texans and Panthers, not particularly strong opponents. $40 ($445) Byes: Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, Pittsburgh Total Bet = $120 Last edited by monkeyman576; 10-07-2025 at 12:17 AM. |
