Joe Bug Strikes again
Game is patched, Created a new universe with the default leagues.
The various Winter Leagues now have a large amount of "Joe"s in them, as would happen in the prior patch. I've also noticed a large number of "american" sounding names in the mexican leagues, from mexico. Allen Mosier from Nogales Jim Larson from Acamixtla Henry McGee from Sombrerete Pete Koehler from San Luis Potosi Cam Rhine from San Martin de Hidalgo and that's just on one team. On a single Puerto Rican winter league team I have... 9 Joes. The others have comperable numbers of Joes. Side note: Created 3 stand alone leagues, a Mexican League, a Dominican WL and a Puerto Rican WL in a Universe. Didn't use the "standard league" options. The Mexican teams still had plenty of "american sounding names" However the Joe Bug did not hi the Dominican and Puerto Rican Leagues. Seems those need to be updated in the next patch perhaps. I find this fascinating, since I couldn't seem to buy a Joe in any of the North American leagues I've created so far.

Check Mexico for the odd names Check PR WL for the Joes. I'd be curious to see if you get the same thing when you do this. |

Perfectly plausible...I mean the South Korean soccer teamhad 5 or 6 Lee's in their starting lineup yesterday.

I agree with Bishop, the "Joe bug" lives on!
I started my current league AFTER I installed the patch and the game is still generating tons of "Joe's" from Hispanic nations. I checked the first name file in the database and Joe is not listed among the first names that are supposed to be generated for Latino countries. To test this further, I just created 10 fictional players for the Dominican Winter League, and 4 of the players generated were named Joe. What gives? I thought this was corrected.

dola,
Just to be clear, here's the info on the Dominican Republic cut & pasted from the nations.txt: 56,Dominican Republic,Dominican Republic,DOM,Dominican,4,5,1,100,,,, Now my question is this: If 100% of the names generated for the DR is from "1", as is clearly the case above, and the name "Joe" is not among the first names listed under "1", where are all the Joe's coming from? Am I doing something wrong, or is the "Joe Bug" still in evidence? Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you create this league yourself, or did you use the preset Dominican Winter League in the game? I'm going to try Jamey's name file that he posted in the mods league and see if that helps. |

Warning!!
Disregard the workaround I posted above. I'm an idiot! I neglected to initially check the rosters of existing teams in my leagues after I swapped the names.dat. When I did, I discovered much to my horror that ALL the names of the existing players in my league were changed. In short, while this eliminated the "Joe Bug" for me, it also systematically renamed every player in my universe. This is not a viable workaround and I apologize for presenting it as such. ![]()

Caporegime,
Doing a test with Jamey's name file, along with the nations edit you posted, I have no problems using the default starting leagues. No 9 Joes and no Pete Koehlers from San Luis Potosi running around. Give that a try and see if it works for you as well |

Hello all,
Just following up on this issue. It sounds like everyone has found a plausible workaround to their satisfaction. Some tweaks to nations and names files were made for Patch 2, although I believe Mexico still has some American names in there. Meanwhile, I create a game with every standard league in the Patch 2 beta, and the names look pretty good. I think this is getting tightened up, and I'm going to move this to the Closed/Claimed Fixed forum. Feel free to let me know if you want to discuss further! Thanks, Steve |
