Version Corruption
I have tried every which way but loose to install the 1.0.2 patch, but keep coming up with the same error:
![]() This is most likely the reason for my game recently deciding to crash every time I have attempted to play. I want to re-install the game from scratch, but I can't seem to a) uninstall the original version (my system does not recognize its existence) or b) install the new version without the installer locking up every single time. This is extremely frustrating, considering I was able to play the enitre month of June without a single problem, and not the whole kit and kaboodle has corrupted itself on me. Please, if there is ahyone out there who can help me, I beg of you. My game is literally unplayable. I want to be able to enjoy this game again, but I can't do that until I can reinstall the software.

I have no idea if it's going to be any use to you, but just in case: MS Windows Installer Cleanup utility

Please uninstall the game. Of course, backup your files.
Then grab a fresh copy of the game from here: http://www.ootpbaseball2006.com/down...=download&id=1 Reinstall, and give it a whirl. I'm actually uncertain as to which version that will install, but I believe it's 1.0.2. |

Steve:
How do I uninstall with no option to do so? When I go to "Add/Remove Programs" from my Control Panel, OOTP is not an option, and there is no "Uninstall" option built into the game. Plus, I HAVE redownloaded a fresh copy of the game installer (four, in fact) and it hangs up each time, right around the point where I have to asccept the license agreement.

![]() Unfortunately, this means it's a Windows problem, and we all know how fun Windows can be. ![]() I would suggest this: 1. Back up your files. 2. Delete the entire Sports Interactive directory from your Program Files. 3. Try the utility Zeyes mentioned, or try Easy Cleaner to clean your registry. 4. Reboot. 5. Install the game again. Are you comfortable with the sorts of tools Zeyes mentioned? I'm really fairly sure at this point something is wrong from an operating system perspective. Steve |

Thank you for the offer Dale, I think I may have found the root of the problem. Everytime I try to delete my "Sports Interactive" folder, I get an error "Cannot delete start_screen. Directory is not empty. I have narrowed the problem down to the "OOTP Blue" skin.

After trying just about everything I could, including deleting everything by the offending "start_screen" folder, I tried the Easy Cleaner program Steve suggested, but even that refused to delete this one folder, suggesting the the file may be "in use." So, that got me thinking...there are two user profiles on this computer. So, i logged out and logged in as the other, and lo and behold, there was OOTP in the "Add/Remove Programs" menu. I uninstalled, went back to install the new version I donloaded, and viola! It loaded up easily.
So, I staarted up the game, the version info is correct. Selected the "Scores and Scedules" page from the menu (the root of my original problem in this save game), and there it was: The option to play my game. All fixed. Thank you all for helping.

Even better!
I had downloaded the demo version (1.0.2) and it automatically detected my licence info, so I am good to go!

Maybe the moral of the story is:
Don't install under one username and patch with another?! Either way, I would like to figure out how the version info became corrupt in the first place... AND I still can't for the life of me delete that ONE FOLDER!

Have you ever used Safe Mode before?
I bet if you boot into Safe Mode, and log in as someone with administrator privileges, you'll be able to delete that folder. To boot into safe mode, reboot your computer, and while the BIOS is loading all of that, just keep pressing the F8 key until a special menu appears. Thanks, Steve |
