Crash while trying to start historical league

I am running the most current version of the game.

Whenever I try to create a historical league using ANY database such as Lahman, Gambo, etc the game will crash to desktop after it gets past the league options screen and says "Importing Players". At that point the game crashes every time.

Please advise. I assume I am just missing a step even though I followed the manual word for word as well as the how to start a historical league setup guide.

Can you play a quickstart?

As I see it, you are clicking New Game | Add Historical Major League | choosing the master.csv then clicking confirm | in Historical League Imports, selecting the year, click import league | watch game explode on the importing players.

You are exactly correct. I can play a quickstart without any trouble, it is just when I try to start a new league using historical players that everything goes wrong. I have tried using the Lahman and Arod/Garlon databases but neither works.

Any chance that one of the Euro boys might be able to help with this problem or has OOTP shut down operations until the World Cup is over?

When I'm loading a roster from Lahman/Garlon, I have troubles because of the virusscan and AIM. I shut down AIM and my virus scan and point Windows to OOTP and wait and it takes about 5 minutes and it's loaded.

If I have a virus scan or firewall or AIM up and running, it takes upwards of 2-3 hours. I'm not Euro guy, but I'd recommend exiting everything except OOTP2006 and just let it sit. (You may have already done this, I don't know).

Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried turning off all other programs including virus scanning, firewall, etc but it didn't seem to help.

Again, probably something you tried...

Have you tried loading different years in the different databases?

The database import seems to use a good bit more RAM than previous versions. If I remember correctly, you'll need at least 256... anything less and its so slow that it appears to have stopped (though it hasn't, its just proceeding at a glacier-like pace) and with less it sometimes just CTD. The amount of RAM you have may have something to do with it if you are on the lower threshold.

I don't mean to question your intelligence with these questions, I'm just trying to help since the guys seem to be out and unavailable. I don't claim to have any answers, but it worked for me so something is wrong somewhere.

When you click (in game) on the garlon path, what are the files you see? I see: Arod23Garlon2006Debrea..., Batting.csv, Fielding.csv, Fieldingof.csv, Lahmanreadme53.txt, Master.csv, Pitching.csv, rookiedraftlist.txt, Teams.csv, TeamsFranchises.csv. Now, when I click on Master, it gives me "Master.csv/Size:881.9 k/Date:2.6.6". I click confirm and a dialog box appears. Still good through there, if I read your original post correctly.

I then pick a year, for this, I'll be picking 1994. The rest, I leave as default no check, career totals, check, 200, 50, 25, 10. I click import, then it imports.

Loading database....

Exactly the same thing I do and it even works through the part that says importing database but then when it goes to importing players I get the error message and windows asks if I want to send an error report. The game then crashes to desktop from there. I have tried a variety of seasons and all of the different types of databases.

This is a harder solution:

delete databases

uninstall OOTP

reboot

re download databases

reinstall OOTP

test

I run ZA, AVG, Trillian, and imports take 30 seconds ( dead ball era ) to 4 minutes ( 1990's). I find Arod is faster than Lahman, but not by much.

I had considered that but was concerned that I would lose one of my licenses by doing that.

How much RAM do you have? This isn't something that I can reproduce so my first thought is that it is something system specific.

If there is a problem with a license, eLicense actually has customer service to straighten it out.

Starting from a clean slate may do good.

I have been building and testing games just as the one you are trying to get. 3 a night usually, and I just don't get these kinds of poor results. Sorry.

If it is 2 hrs later, I am leaning heavily on being a system oriented issue vs a software issue.

I would agree.....make sure you close all other programs, defrag HD and make sure the system is clean of spyware, adware, etc.

I have 512mb of RAM. I can run quickstart leagues with no problem and save games are no problem. It is just trying to create a historical league.

Check to all of that. Still no progress on getting historical players to import.
