Poor AI Roster Moves

So I have waited to really start playing the game till 1.02 since it appears the AI roster moves are pretty bad.

Well so far in 1.02 I am not very happy. There are a lot of questionable moves that just don't make sense. Here is one example. (For clarity I have the finanical coefficent set to .400)

A team just resigned a 34 MR to a 3.5 mil/year, 5 year deal. Makes him the 3rd highest paid player on the team. There is only a MR in the whole league who current makes over 1mil. The next highest is 450k. He was making only 350k this year. He has below average stats and is the 2nd out or 3 ranked on the team (only 3 MR is another issue) Scouts are off. There are atleast 6 MR FA right now with a better overall rating & younger.

I know there was an issue with MR being overvalued. It seems this may still be the case.

There could be other factors here besides just the financial coeffficent being changed. Did you do anypther changes in financial, and is this a 1.01 save or a newly created one?

This is a clean install of 1.02 and a newly created league.

I have numerous options such as a salary cap, revenue sharing, etc. If you need all the options I can list them or take a screen shot of the setup screen.

As a said there seems to be many very strange AI decisions here. I can list many more if needed, but most seem to involve overpaid relievers.

Can you go to League Transactions, Show All Players, Filter by Financial, sort the $ column from High to Low and paste a shot of that first page of, what is it, 20 players or so? Just want to take a look at the dollars and positions of your highest paid players in the league. Thanks in advance.

So here are two screen shots. The first sorted by current contract. I am in July of my first season. This looks normal and nothing very strange here.

But here is the one that is sorted by contract extensions.

The example I orginally posted about is Dirke Price. But this seems to be pretty pitcher heavy. I mean a 7 year contract to a 34 pitcher. This seems alittle strange. Or Steve Foole who is making 422k this year at 34 but signs a 2 year extension at 2.2mil a year?

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks. In general really enjoying the game.

So after 2 years of the league, it seems to only be the first couple of months of the first season that has some wired signings. I am thinking it has to do with how the managers deal with the Salery Cap during the first season. Just a thought.

That may be an element. In addition, I can't tell from one report what the AI believes it has available in the Prospect Pool. For that matter, neither can the AI properly right now as it isn't retaining an accurate minor-league contract base with which to judge promotional potential.

Couple more things I want to check out before the night is over, but if I can't confirm a trend beyond these initial months, I'm going to ask it be closed out while we simply keep an eye on it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I have now simmed twelve years and it is only in those first couple of months of the first season that sees some very stange extensions to relievers.

The bigger problem is that the salery cap does not seem to be working.

endgame, I'm leaving this one in your capable hands, whether it needs to be logged or not. Would be nice if we could replicate this issue.

hrc, we'll deal with the salary cap in that thread.

Thanks,

Steve

We have a rule that states that Tech Support threads wherein we have not received a response within 7 days will be closed.

This one meets this criteria, so I'm closing this.

If you want to discuss it again, just PM me with the thread link, and I'll re-open. (Don't just say "Hey, reopen my thread." I need to know the URL, thanks!)
