Waivers and Releasing Players

Since patch 2 I have been able to release players directly without them clearing waiver and they just go directly to the FA pool. This is not correct since players need to clear waivers before they can be released.

This is normally not a problem since I can just make sure I do it correctly and wait for the player to clear waivers before I release him. However, in the case of a player who has the right to refuse a minor league assignment I ran into the following problem. I tried to demote him to my AAA team but he refused assignment. I put him on waivers and when I tried to put him on the DFA list I got back the message "player refuses to be assigned". The player has no right to do this; he can refuse assignment but he cannot refuse to be placed on the DFA list. In order to free up his roster spot I had to release him directly without him clearing waivers.

Sorry for the late reponse. First, have you made sure that you've "enabled" waivers for this league? If so, can you verify if it's still an issue with the latest patch?

Thanks!

Any update on this?

And, forgive me for being so stupid about transactions, but does a club need to pass a player through waivers before releasing them? I didn't think they needed to, if they are willing to buy out the contract.

The only reason players are put on waiver in this case is not because they HAVE to, it's because the team is hoping another team will pick up the salary, a la Manny Ramirez.

Is that not true?

Thanks,

Steve

I did some confirmation, and it turns out - wow! - I was right. You can release a player at any time, as long as you're willing to fork over the cash.

Closing this one out!
