Traded players landing in limbo

I loaded a historical league from Lahman 5.4 and started in 2006.

I'm the manager of the SF Giants.

On 1-05-06, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim traded McPherson to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Roberto Hernandez and $1,340,000 in cash.

Now the strange part is that on 1-20-06, the Los Angeles Angels of Anheim again offers Dallas McPherson to me for Todd Greene.

When I click on 'Dallas McPherson' in the 1-20-06 Trade News window, the profile shows McPherson as part of LAA. There's no mention of the trade in the History tab.

However when I click on 'Dallas McPherson' in the 1-05-06 trade announcement, McPherson's profile shows PIT and there's a mention of the trade in the History tab.

Now the strange part - when I go to the team pages from the 'ML Teams' pulldown menu, I can't find McPherson in either Pittsburgh or Los Angeles Angels rosters. The Angels's transaction screen mentions the trade but the Pirates do not.

And here's the kicker, there's now two of them in the player search.
When I click on the Pirates' version, McPherson is in the Pirates roster and mentioned in the transaction news.

The person he was traded for also shows up twice in 'Player Search'.
I checked other trades and it looks like other traded players are being cloned.

I made a backup of the league if you wanted a copy.

BTW, the duplicate players also show up in the Player Search window. Just sort by names and you'll see a lot of cloned players

What I noticed so far is that it doesn't happen all the time. I start 5 historical leagues and only noticing this twice. It's pretty obvious when it does happen. Just alphabetize the Player search window and there will be a lot of duplicate names.

I haven't seen any correlation between the two times this happened.

FWIW - When I reloaded the league, I don't see any more cloning.

It's also interesting to note that the cloned players have a new player ID (as seen in commisioner mode -> edit player)

Is there any chance that you changed the draft date in the league settings. I made this mistake myself during a season and got duplicates of everyone coming into the draft. I had to manually go through the list and delete the clones.

I didn't change the draft dates. I didn't even reach the draft when the dups started. And veterans were duplicated.
