Team abbreviations and historical databases

Do the team abbreviations in your league have to match those in the historical database (Gambo's in my case) in order to import rookies properly (no draft, new players onto original teams). For example, if your league has the Yankees as NYY and the database has them as NYA, would there be a problem due to the mismatch? Probably a dumb question, but better to know for sure before it's too late.

By the way, thanks for all the help in this forum.

Yes, they have to match or the imported players will go to the FA pool.

Another question along the same lines.

I'm new to these databases, but what I'm understanding is that when it comes time to import the yearly rookies, the game looks to the database for an abbreviation that matches an abbreviation in the game. If it finds a match, it puts it the new players on that team; if it doesn't find a match, it puts them in the free agent pool. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So, say, for example, I want to have 1993 expansion but want to add the Washington Nationals instead of the Colorado Rockies. I presume I can call the team the Nationals, use the Nationals' logos, etc., and as long as I leave the Nationals' abbreviation as COL (or whatever it is for the Rockies), the players who would have been imported to the Rockies instead will be imported to the Nationals.

Then, when it comes time for the Expos to change to the Nationals, I can leave the Expos as they are and as long as I change the Expos' abbreviation to WAS (or whatever it is), the players who would have been imported to the Nationals will be imported to the Expos instead.

Thanks again if anyone can confirm this one way or the other.
