Loading database failed

Some people in my league are getting the following error:

"The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version."

Does anyone know how to fix this? I thought it might be a corrupt league file but it's only happening to certain people.

Are you all running version 2.0.2.53 of OOTP 2007?

Is this a file that they are trying to download in-game or one that they have downloaded and placed in a folder outside of the OOTP program?

Yes we are all running the latest version. They have tried through the game and also downloading it outside the game and putting in it the saved_games folder.

ditto. i now have two of my 12 owners coming up with this same error. the game starts, but then they can't load the league file/game.

one small thing that 'might' be important: the two that had this happen were attempting to download the fleague file while it was still being uploaded. i'm not sure if this caused it, or if it is just circumstantial.

many hairs have been pulled out thus far.

we have attempted to completely remove the game from the system and do a full re-install. this had no effect.

I had my guys do that same thing and it didn't work.

Just to clearify, I'm on a mac and I have GMs who are on mac and PCs and the problem is occuring on both platforms.

it looks like this is a common problem. a noticed several threads here and there regarding this issue.

it would be nice to have them kept together and addressed officially.

i have seen two methods of possible repair so far in digging around that i have instructed my owners to try:

"This may or may not help, but when i see that another GM in my league gets this error message they rectify it by opening up the game, clicking the Load Game button and highlighting the league in question, then delete the league from the game. Close the game. I then have them create the league.lg folder again in the saved games folder and then go to the site and get the file and extract it to the league.lg folder. Open the game again, but do not use the continue button, choose Load Game and select the new league.lg file and load er up. This has worked everytime."

"Also, you can tell the people who have had their own leagues "corrupted" by trying to DL the current file in-game that they can "fix" it (at least, get back the working copy of the league they had before) by going into their league folder, and renaming any files that end in *.bak to *.dat instead. For any file that has both a .dat and a .bak version, delete the .dat and rename the .bak to take its place.

(What's going on there is that as soon as OOTP finishes downloading a league file, all the league's .dat files are renamed to .bak files as a backup. With your corrupted league file, new .dat files aren't being extracted to take their place, so OOTP thinks the league is corrupt because of a bunch of the .dat files seem to be missing. So "restoring" the old versions will get their leagues up and running again)"

p.s. - i will report back if either of these work.

The second option worked for me ... this should be logged as a bug in the program. The loading of a league file should be in a transaction mode ... if at some point loading these files fail, then it ought to restore to the initial state.

Everyone in our league got a crash from the application after downloading the league file during the part where it applies the download. After which, the league wouldn't open at all.

Thanks for the instructions on how to resolve it yajeflow.

The GMs in my league say that they can't find any .bak files. Where would they be located?

C:\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\saved_games\leaguename.lg folder

you find files like these-
players
players.bak

teams
teams.bak

and so on. The first listed as being the .dat file with the duplicate (back up) listed below the .dat

excellent. my two owners also said that the first option did not work. one of them has said that the second option worked, however. no word yet on the other one.

So it seems as if the names.dat file is the one cause the problems. The GM having the issue noticed that the names.dat was missing from the league files so I sent the file to them and it worked. The second option also worked for some. Very strange.

Does this indicate that there are two seperate bugs causing similar results?

Well it seems like the names.dat file WASN'T the problem cause it came back.
I have no idea what the issue it but there needs to be a fix ASAP cause it's affecting my league.

Honestly I have no idea how I fixed it. It seems like it just fixed itself.

Those are always the most frustrating. Alright, I'll close this out for now. If you see any further occurrences, please post in Tech Support along with a link to this thread.
