2990 - FaceGen, delete pics and start over...

I know I'm missing something stupid, but I keep trying to regenerate new photos but they don't change... I think I saw someone else earlier say the same thing, but I can't find the answer.

Same deal here. Players I've looked at who had the generic picture don't change when you generate new.

by the generic picture, do you mean the default? If you have FaceGen set to create on demand and also only if in ML, the player will have to be signed to a team (effectively in the ML) in order to generate his pic. At least that's what I found looking around my first try.

Can you please clarify what it is you're trying to accomplish, and we'll try to tell you how to do it?

Do you want new (as in different facial structure) faces? New pictures with the current faces? You don't have faces at all yet and you want them?

Thanks!

Had no faces. Looked at Ty Cobb in 1910 after simming from 1901. He had a generic, blurry picture. I generated all new for everyone(player/coach/manager) and got new ones for everyone except Ty Cobb, who still had the generic, blurry picture.

In my case, I was trying to do something similar to Cooley - start in 1901 with no afro-americans so I could simulate desegregation in a later year. My original pictures included afro-americans, so I edited the ethnicity file to exclude them and regenerated the pictures - but they are still there....

Al

PS: Oh, and I reloaded the ethnicity file after I edited it too...

Did you try this?

Go to Game Setup > Player & Picture Options > Generate New Player Pics

This will overwrite all of the existing faces (change the faces completely), but it should redraw everything.

If you want to redraw all of the existing faces without changing their features, try the Force Update/Generate Player Pictures option on the same page.

Did that, no luck.

However, once I reloaded the league (by restarting), Ty Cobb had a facegen portrait.

Yep. I get new pictures, but they are still afro-american.

I'm begining to think once a player id created, his ethnicity is in the OOTP .dat files and can't be changed - sound right?

I'm not certain about this. However, this is confusing enough that it deserves to be looked at more closely, by Andreas.

I'm going to move this over to Tech Support and log it.

I wanted it to be clear what I was trying to do.

I'd like to set up a fictional league in 1901 with only caucasian players - in other words, have the game initally generate AND continue to generate only caucasian players until I want to bring in others (like the MLB did historically).

I can't seem to figure out what kind of changes I need to make to the game or files to make that happen.

You should be able to do this:

1. BEFORE creating your league, modify the ethnicities.txt so that it's only caucasian players. (Details on this in the manual.) If you want to be extra safe.

2. Start your league. In your case, you probably want to set foreigners to zero and turn off hidden players, or you'll get foreigners creeping into the league.

3. That should be about it, honestly, until such point as you need to adjust the percentages again.

Let me know how it goes.

What happens if I change the ethnicities.txt file AFTER I've created the league, manually change all the current players to caucasian (with editor). I've already got hidden players turned off and foriegners set to zero.

Think that will work?

If you reimport the edited ethnicities (you know how to do that, I think), then I believe this should work.

If it doesn't, it may be a bug . It sure sounds like it should work to me.

Not really a game problem...

Turns out you have to know how things work to get it to do what you want.

The first thing I tried was to manually change the ethnicity of each player to caucasian with the idea that the new, modified ethnicities.txt file would create the new players correctly. After I finished the 16 major league team and thought about doing the 3 levels of minors, I realized this was WAY too much work.

So, I went back to the template I had saved before I created the league (HINT: Always save a template before you hit "Start Game"!) and restarted it with the correct, modified, ethnicities.txt file this time.

Well, as you might guess, it worked like a charm this way. If you want to create a set of players to a unique set of specs, (all white, all black, all asian, etc.) change the ethnicities file FIRST, and everything works great.

Steve, you can remove this issue as a problem - I just had to understand what I was doing

That's right, the ethnicity is in the players.dat, but it can be changed. Only manually, though
You need to edit the ethnicities.txt file before you create the league. Or edit all the players manually and change the ethnicity.
