freezing issue

I have vista on my laptop and the game will say NOT RESPONDING. This happens ALOT. Getting annoying. It happens when loading the game and simulating. It however RARELY happens when i am playing a individual game. Nearly every other aspect this occurs. Drives me nuts for it really slows me down.

what type of processor and how much memory do you have? How's your hard drive (plenty of space? do you know the drive speed? have you been defragging?)?

"Not Responding" really means "I'm really busy doing something else right now so go away and leave me alone!" but that was too long for an error message so they shortened it.

Since one of you has lots of RAM this probably means you have other processes running in the background, maybe even some you don't know about, that are hogging CPU and perhaps disk write time. Turn them off and OOTP will possibly respond a little bit faster.

I-Book guy - you might need a little bit more RAM to spiff your response times up, 768 is just not enough for most programs anymore. Any computer with less than 1 gb of Ram is considered a "puffball". And yes my personal computer does fall into that category as well. It's may be slow but it works!

Hit Ctrl + Alt + delete and go to the task manager to see what is eating up your resources.

It is a good idea to make sure you don't have a lot of programs running at startup (which then end up running in the background). You may also want to test your PC at a site like PC Pitstop: Free PC Diagnostics, computer help and Tuneups. They have a scanning tool that is free that recommends tweaks to your setup. I think it has a list of startup programs that are running and suggestions of which you could disable (any maybe how). On Vista you can also view startup programs on your control panel/programs, "change startup programs."

This is when you load OOTP, or when you load a particular saved game? If the latter, could you please try creating a new league as a test to see if that will load without trouble?

this latest issue happened when i was trying to shut down and it pops up when i start it up. So i created a new game. It works now on that part. However i did work on performance issues of PC and its optimal and i STILL get the not responding issue. It happens ALOT and doesnt matter what i am doing. It doesnt however do it while playing the game. It begins to do this when the box score is shown at the end of game. Simulation of season gives same message and few various things as well.

I can recreate your challenge merely by starting OOTP and then running a Ms-Access db at the same time. It is most likely still a resource issue. If I quit the Access program OOTP speeds back up.

You probably just need to find out what you have to quit to get things moving again.

Is there such a thing as a computer laxative?

Its just wierd simply and when i had ootp6. Things went smoothly and i had a much older PC. Now that i have the top of the line laptop and it still cant cut it which bothers me. Just wonder what is different this from ootp6 to ootp9. On the memory and processer speed.

I want to thank everybody who has read and responded in this thread it is much appreciated.

Here is a dumb question.... Is there any possible way to make the simulations run quicker without the freezeup or the not responding message to appear ???? just looking for another way to do the same thing.

Here are a few tips on improving performance: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...auto-play.html

Just how large is the game universe that you are trying to play? How many teams and leagues?

its Major Leagues plus the Minors. That basic. I have the league set up to where it wont save any of the box scores and not pop up every time i get a message. However when i load the game and i click on the window it will also state that its not responding and the window turns white. Its annoying in how slow this is. When i click on simulate for a month it will say not responding after 33% of day one. Then it will simulate again and after one day not responding it does that all the time. Just annoying and not as enjoyable to play. I have 2Ghz prosesser and 2 GB RAM 200 GB hard drive on windows Vista and i even loaded the first service pack as well. i like this game in the past I just been working on it and trying to get it more efficient and enjoyable. The wierd thing is ... this game never says not responding while playing a game. It will start to say it when at end of game and loads box score. This is making me think its the program protical is whats making it slow ??? To me it seems logical.

The thing is I run the game on Vista and without any of these issues. I am sure there are many others w/o issues too. I hope we can help you solve your problem but I can't think of any other ideas for you at the moment. Have you tried running a system scan on a site like PC Pitstop for tweaks that you can make to improve performance? That is about all I can come up with.

So I had the exact same problem running on vista, it would sometimes take 2 minutes to "fix" itself. To spare you the details, I fixed the problem by disabling my antivirus (macafee at the time, i switched to avast this weekend). My guess is that it was choking on the HTML files being generated.

I am having a similar hanging problem with Vista.

1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.

I'm running a pretty sizable league (80 teams with 3 levels of minors). The game simmed through the first season like butter so I thought everything should be fine. I went to sim past January of season 2 to get to spring training and then got the Vista '(Not Responding)' error message. I closed out the game after a few minutes and tried again. The next time I went and did something else for half an hour and OOTP was still '(Not Responding).'

2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?

See above.

3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?

I can duplicate the error with this game, but haven't yet created another game.

4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?

The game should have simmed past January 30th.

5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)

Fictional. 80 teams, 3 levels of minors. 8 divisions with each division based in a different nation.

6. Are you a Mac or PC user?

PC with Vista. Btw, my antivirus is disabled as well.
