Changing a pitcher's role

Is there anyway to change a pitcher from a closer to a starter other than in the player edit option screen?

Every time I change a pitcher from a reliever to a starter, the AI changes him back to a reliever.

I think the answer to your question is "no" as long as the AI controls a team (and I think it only needs to control lineup/depth charts to control roles, but I could be wrong about that). I don't even think that changing the role in the Editor would stick. Plus, whatever you say a players role is, may have minimal or no impact on how the AI uses him. If the AI thinks your guy is a closer, the AI will use him as a closer, even if you call him an SS.

With position players, you can get some control over this with the player's individual strategy settings, which force the AI to use a player in a certain role. However, that doesn't work for pitchers.
