The must be saved in PNG format, but it leaves out a crucial detail: it must be 32-bit PNG. Using another bit depth, like 24-bit or 8-bit (or letting your graphic program auto-detect, since it may choose these bit depths) will result in PNGs that cannot be read by OOTP.
