Has anyone got the historical facegens to work?

I want to figure out if this is just me or if it isn't working at all.

I downloaded and installed both the All In One pack and the Historical Facegens. After I did this I created a new 2010 game. The facegens appear.

My global facegen settings have facegen enabled and to use facegen before a picture.

I created a new historical game for 1978. I turned on fictional pictures for all major league players. After I created the league I looked at the players profile and they are all using photos.

If I select New picture from the player profile Picture action menu, it generates a facegen (not the one from the historical add on). If I then go to the Game Setup / Picture Options and do an update / force update on the fictional pictures, the player I just did the New Picture on now has their historical facegen. I can't get all players to use their historical facegen.

Am I doing somethig wrong?

If somebody got the historical facegen add on to work, can you please post the steps to make it work?

Thanks

For 1978 check guys like Reggie Jackson...or heck the Expos team and tell me if they have FaceGens.

If not make sure the fgs are in the fg_file directory. I believe this was an issue with the all in one but should now be fixed.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the face gen files are in the fg_file directory. Funny you mentioned it but Reggie was one of the ones I checked, along with Ron Guidry.

For the life of me it is only using the photos and not the historical facegens, unless I force then one at a time like I describe in my OP.

I'll see if I can figure out how to pull them in an existing league and let everybody know.

Even if you can post instructions on how to get them to work in a new historical league that would be great. I wouldn't mind creating a new league. I have tried abou 10 times and just can't get the historical facegen add on files to be used.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure this was my original problem or not, but I figured out my latest one.

I installed using a custom folder. This put all my data folders in the OOTP install folder. I used the Preferences | Expert Settings to move my data folder to My Documents\OOTP 11. I followed the instructions and copied my folders as instructed.

I installed the historical facegen add on. It went to my new location (as I hoped). The files were under the addon and fg_files folders. I then created my new historical league. It didn't use the facegen files.

I copied the fg_files from my new data folder back to the OOTP\Data folder and created a new historical league. It then picked up the facegen files. So, OOTP doesn't seem to handle the facegens if you use the Expert Settings to move the data folder.

I'm not sure if it works right out of the box or not if you either to a default install or a custom install without moving your data folder using the Expert Settings.

I worked around it by deleting all the photos in my PHOTOS folder. Then the game used FaceGen for historical games. I think the game is automatically defaulting for pictures over FaceGen in historical leagues.

Just to confirm the same issue. I set up a new 1962 Historical League. I have the correct Facegen settings in Preferences and within the game. The Facegen pics are not showing up in my league, just photos.

yeah there is a problem for sure, but also remember that the farther back you go, the less players have a historical facegen completed. I played 1968 and was surprised at how few Cardinals had a FaceGen done yet, including Bob Gibson. (this is in no way criticizing the work being done! )

Weird but I tried the same thing and even started a new historical save and somehow it still had the old players photos and not face gen. How is that even possible?

Bob Gibson has a FaceGen, there are two Bob Gibson's thoughout history so his file has a (1) behind the name. If you go to your fg_files folder, find the Bob Gibson(1).fg file and remove the (1), a FaceGen for the Cards pitcher will show for anyone with that name.

Just randomly going through some of the historical players last night (this feature has absolutely blown my mind in a good way), Joe Morgan was really the only HOF guy I was surprised to see without a FaceGen, some guys like the aforementioned Gibson, Pete Rose, Eddie Collins, Ed Walsh and Frank Baker are in there, they just have the (1) on their names because of multiple players throughout history sharing that name (I think those others are sons of the more famous father).

On a related note, father/son combos like the Griffeys, Gwynns and Matthews have FaceGens for both father and son and if you use the MLB quickstart, the son's will show for both players if you don't make some changes- Griffey Jr and Gwynn Jr are named as such in the quickstart so you can delete/rename the default Griffey and Gwynn .fg file and then rename the Griffey(1) and Gwynn(1) .fg file, removing the (1), those represent the father. For Gary Matthews Jr, you would have to rename him in the game to (add on the "Jr."), delete/rename the default Matthews .fg file then rename the Gary Matthews(1) file. There are probably other father/son combos like that (didn't check the Hairstons now that I think about it) but those are the ones that immediately stuck out to me.

You can always manually assign the fg file to a player using the action menu in the player profile. It might also work to change the name to use the ID# format.

You're right on the money. This is covered in the readme for the pack. There should also be a subdirectory in the Historical set that has guys renamed according to the Gambo/Spritze databases.
