Setting up mixed historical league
I'm not so new to the game but in each of the past 3 versions I've tried to do this to no avail. This is my 3rd or 4th time with V11.
What I want to do is create a league with WSox playoff/WSeries teams and other teams with those seasons. I'm looking at 2005...1993...1983 and 1959. I've tried 3 times now to create a custom and or historical league starting with 2005. I've tried both approaches. I import 2005 and delete all the teams that did not make the playoffs. I set up all the aspects of the league...no morale...potential ratings etc etc. When I think I have all the setup stuff covered I go to the Edit League Structure and try to import teams from the other years. Just can't get any results or any teams to show. I've typed in the 'data/stats/historical_database.odb phrase from the League Structure Editor in the manual and I can't find anything to give me teams. I've tried to find just the file in OOTP labeled 'data' that begins the phrase. Nothing. I've tried to import teams from the league setup WITHOUT starting with any basic year. Can't get anything to show. Question: Can someone point me to the stupid mistakes I'm making in trying to accomplish this? Question 2: After I finally get this to work (I'm not giving up because I think OOTP V11 is Fantastic) and actually import the teams will the import bring all the players that team had at one time that year? Or will I have to go back and remove and add players so I can fill their actual playoff real life rosters correctly? If so...and I think that is the way it will be...is there a way to import individual players through cloning so I don't have to go through a ton of steps for each player. Thanks...assuming I made this clear enough. I see posts with other fellas creating special historical type leagues with teams from different years and I'm just trying to figure out how to do something similar. Found it! Kept playing around and in the import I finally went down to OOTP11/stats and there were the teams I wanted. What a blast going to my favorite years and teams.
Sure it took a little while but it was neat. After a break I'll go in and face the music as to whether their full rosters for the particular year were imported. If not then it's back to work trying to clone or do something for the players that are missing from their real life playoff rosters. Sure would be nice if they are all there. I had already checked no fictional pics but still had many show up so I'll have to pour all those Gambo pics into the saved season image file. Anyway...I have never worked on anything quite like this with all the perks that OOTP supplies. All the writeups...extensive stats...player pics etc. It's going to take a good while to set up all the details but this is going to be one of the neatest projects I've ever worked on in baseball simming for over 50 years going back to the dice days. I have 12 AL teams setup from fav teams and years to 16 for the NL. Disregard this thread...delete it if you like. But this old man is going to have a ton of baseball gaming...hobby story telling...pitch by pitch enjoyment!! Last edited by skunkle333; 04-25-2010 at 10:59 PM. |
