Question 3B - who do you like?

My inaugural draft has a couple of stud choices at 3B. Which do you like?

Jeremy Caldwell

Age: 23
Bats: L
Leadership: High
Work Ethic: Very Low
Intelligence: High
Injury: Durable

Current: 94/96/15/104/114
Potential: 94/96/15/110/116

1B: 56
2B: 27
3B: 41

Range: 38
Error: 46
Arm: 70

Conrado Fernandez
Age: 20
Bats: R
Leadership: High
Work Ethic: Very Low
Intelligence: High
Injury: Durable

Current: 88/74/76/55/95
Potential: 96/79/90/65/101

3B: 51

Range: 64
Error: 61
Arm: 71

Demand is identical.

I like Fernandez because he's 3 years younger, has room to improve, and is a better fielder, but he can ONLY play third, and I value flexibility. I like Caldwell because he's left-handed, and looks like he will just be an on-base machine, but I wish he had some power (especially at third), and he's not a great fielder. Also, Caldwell is rated 4.5 stars overall, with 5.0 potential, so odds are slightly in favor of Fernandez going first. My scout recommends Fernandez, too.

Fernandez.

Hands are softer and a better arm. Has some pop and ability to make contact but wont walk a great deal. Middle of the order hitter. I am thinking a 5 or 6 guy depending on the rest of your lineup.

Dont like that either one has low work ethic.

If Caldwell is still there in the next round you can get him but I am not all that high on him like you are. He does play other positions but none of them really well. Basicly I think he is a teaser. Hitting numbers look good but dosent have a position on the field.

Fernandez as well, I'd rather have a good fielder at third than a mediocre fielder who can play multiple positions

I love player's like Caldwell, but there's a limit to how many you can have in the lineup. If you're set with decent power in the 3-5 slots, and could use a obp machine in the 1-2 slots, then he's a luxury you can afford. If not, then you go with Caldwell.

Also, L/R balance has to play in your decision. A Lefty 3B is either a great thing for your lineup, or it can be a big detriment.

Yeah, this is fairly early in the inaugural draft, so there isn't much of a lineup to compare to yet.

Fernandez. Young, better potential, better defense. Caldwell would do in a pinch, but Fernandez would be my choice.

Oh, Fernandez is probably the better pick then. I'd be very tempted to build around Caldwell in the 2-3 slot though.

Fernandez. Caldwell is a turd in the field.

BTW, your draft questions got me thinking that I haven't done a draft in several versions, which of course led to a whole new league idea. Wish I had time to write a dynasty about it.

I rarely get past Opening Day. I take forever to set up my league and do the initial draft, and then we have to start working on the next version of the game, lol!

haha....yeah, that's about where my last dynasty died, though I got through about a year and a half of playing.

I started my new draft once today and stopped after 9 picks to reorganize and start again. And I haven't even gotten to logos yet.

I would go with Fernandez - 3 yrs younger, more power, better fielder.

During beta, I used to take a team and do nothing other than their amateur draft and pick signing. It was a fun way to play and very time effective.

You can, of course, train Fernandez to play other IF positions during Spring Training, to some extent. (2B and SS depend upon his Turn DP rating).

Who taught me to play this game, anyway? So, I took Conrado, did the whole draft, got to Spring Training, then realized I hadn't loaded my custom schedule.

Now, ordinarily that wouldn't be a huge deal, except that I have a very small league: 2 subleagues with 1 division and 4 teams each. And the default schedule has interleague play off, so basically, I would have had a 162-season game playing the same three teams OVER and OVER and OVER.

So, I'm starting over. I had backed up before the draft, so it will be the same players, anyway...
