New Concept/ New Ideas
When it comes to leagues?
I mean I have been involved with ootp for years, been in leagues even co-commished and I have to say I am sick of getting into leagues that : 1. Are not run efficiently 2. Become Fantasy Leagues where by the 3rd game of the season Cliff Lee has been on 8 teams as well as the pirates landing derek jeter at ss, Tim Lincecum as a SP, and A Rod to round out 3b. I am sick of "fantasy" baseball leagues as a sim league Now that I have the time, I want to create a baseball league that hires reputal GM's only, and has some sort of trade clause where there isn't 20 trades a team by the first week of the season. I have joined league literally where the pirates a season later had everyone from the dodgers and vise verse, it's crazy, and there needs to be a league out their that is different, logically. What I am proposing is a New League, run by me and a board, with a grand prize for the W.S winner at the end of the season. A league that sets new boundaries with social feed updates, team articles etc. Would anyone be interested in signing up or being part of this league, please PM or Reply, looking forward to your thoughts. I am in the midst of finalizing a constitution, guidelines, and hiring GM's. I think we need a league that does the following : 1. Has some sort of trade regulation or limit per sim week, something has to be done to differentiate "fantasy" and sim without holding you and your team back Hope to hear some thoughts ![]() |

I find that the more 'aged' the owners are, the less I see of the trading carousel you speak of. You might try joing those leagues instead of the 'first come, first served' modern day leagues.

+1 I can't play in modern day leagues anymore. Nothing against the youngsters, but sometimes their "enthusiasm" gets the best of them. Although I've played against some top notch GM's who were still in high school. The other problem is that modern day leagues quickly become fictional, and then most GM's quickly lose interest.

Yea, you need to start or join a historical league. I am in many leagues, but do agree that modern day leagues lose their luster after so many years because you get fictional players.
Also, you can set rules in place that will "limit" trading to an extent. Free agents that are signed cannot be traded in the same year. Current season draft picks cannot be traded until the following year. Also, no trading of draft picks. I have joined leagues that advertise on the boards, but you may want to look in the "Interactive Online League Directory". There are many leagues who "never" advertise here, and that's because they get referrals. Find one of those leagues, as I have in the past, and you'll be thankful you took the time to search. |

Well I do hope some of you will consider joining my modern day sim.
I think a modern league can work if gm's are properly screened I have been working hard on site creation and some rules for the last few weeks! Some things about the sim : There will be a trade limit per SIM month (gm's need to learn how to build within and Work on finances. Yeah trades are fine, but this is a sim not fantasy baseball. Gm's will be screen pre hiring and asked some baseball questions To enhance participation a grand cash prize will be givin to the WS winner each year! As well as live sims, team reports etc. I would love for the "older" guys to join or if a mature player person no matter the "age" Washington and Pittsburgh have been taken, please pm me if interested Thanks |

How would you limit trades? An arbitrary limit per GM may be difficult when you have two parties involved. Let's say that I've reached my limit but another GM not at the limit makes a proposal that benefits both teams. Disallowing this trade will result in two disgruntled GM's. If you allow GM's to go over limit when the trade is proposed to them, the chances of cheating rise exponentially. It's a sweeping generalization to suggest that "young" GM's are always the wheeler/dealer types. I'd say 20-30 times I've seen a new "experienced" GM (often an ex-member) introduced to a league to take over a floundering franchise. The only way this can be done in many cases is to trade everything and re stock. Again this is just my observation. ![]()

I personally think there's too many MLB leagues out there.
Play fictional and get attached to your own players! That eliminates a lot of your problem right there! |
