Big time trades
Is there a way to make teams automatically trade players at the historical time? For instance Lou Brock from the Cubs to the Cards in 1964? Can the computer read team stats for those years and deactivate Brock on the Cubs after so many at bats and activate Brock on the Cards? Can both Brocks play the number of at bats they played in real life for each team? In 1993 can Fred McGriff with the Padres stats play for San Diego and Fred McGriff with the Braves stats play for Atlanta? Help!

The historical stats data that OOTP uses does not contain info on trades. It can tell you that a player had stats on two (or more) teams in a year, but not exactly when he changed teams. Or, for that matter, exactly what transaction occurred to make that happen (was he picked up on waivers? Released and signed? Traded?) So there is no way to do replicate that automatically.
The game now includes a "Single-season Replay" option which attempts to make replay of a single season as close to historical as possible, but without attempting to recreate trades, injuries or other random (in OOTP terms) stuff. People have advocated refining that option so basically nothing like that is random. But the work involved would be significant, and it would have to be done by volunteers, so I don't if that is likely (or even if Markus would ever want to deal with it ).

I believe that Markus is considering the addition of automated historical transactions and lineups to OOTP in the future. However, if he ever programs this feature, it's probably unlikely that this could be added before OOTP12.
In the meantime, you can play in commissioner mode and make all necessary transactions yourself. It's a chore, but it can be done. |

It would be a great feature but just think... as much work as it would take for us to do that..... imagine how much it would take the developer to implement that into the game

A few thoughts on how to include transactions...
A simple way to include this feature would be to allow users to make transaction logs that the computer would follow. So in effect you "turn on" the transaction log and it turns off the trading features. From that point on the computer in single season mode would only do trades when the user has programed them via the log. Given time volunteers could create transaction logs for different seasons that could simply be loaded into the program. This saves the ootp staff from hours of data entry, and allows groups of users to focus on seasons that are of particular interest.

I've never understood why someone would want to play in this manner -- essentially replaying history with very few changes to the results. I can look that up at Baseball Reference. To each his own.
