Tips
Anyone got any tips for securing the trade of Strasberg or Lincecum as I've offered the world and got nowt
Also has anyone found any "hidden" gems in the minors that go on to be all-stars I have played for 2 seasons and always seem to lose a pitcher mid season (both seasons !!) whose status drops from 4 or 5 stars to between 1 or 2 Do they ever regain star status again ? At what point does the budget increase ? I won the WS in my first year (only losing 1 match in the entire post-seaons) and couldn't see any increase Any tips on good teams to start with - I have started at red sox as most of their defence is sound and only improvement require in rotation and bullpen Are phillies worth a look as they have the big 4 in their rotation ? Never sure about the Yankees as I think their high earners would veto any attempts to get rid of them Lastly who can I go for as a decent replacement DH once Ortiz hits the skidz Too many questions I know but am loving the game and want to get better Last edited by Disco Dog 13; 05-19-2011 at 05:57 PM. |

For Strasberg, i offered felix hernandez and another elite starter in exchange for jayson werth and strasberg. you need to include someone like with a high salary werth in the trade in order to get it accepted.
for lincenum, make sure you have the salary space, and offer them a top player and a prospect in return for lincenum and zito (whose 17 million dollars of crap) Another forum member, i want to say chort but i'm not sure found that jameson taillon seems to become an extremely good starter, i've gone 16 seasons and 323 wins with him. not as good as strasburg, but very consistent through the years., of course randomness may cause him to become inffective but... it's worth the risk IMO Sometimes they do regain star status, but these kinds of things are totally random and determined by the game engine budget increases only once in a while, you'll usually get a huge boost if your team gets bought by a new owner though, the angels went up to 220 million for me after new ownership to build the best dynasty i started with the new york yankees because of their high total salary, once you dump the expensive players (send them to minors to get rid of the 10/5) you can SUSTAIN a team of 10-13 superstars for up to 11 years if you play your cards right. don't get too greedy though, or you may end up losing your stars to free agency. the big four get old too quickly, and your team ends up falling apart, that coupled with initial low draft picks make the middle years frustrating, but it's very enjoyable to piece the organization back together for a DH, i got Jay Bruce, great homerun power and very consistent for up to 12 years. click thanks if this helped(: |

Best way to get Stras is to wait until the offseason. 9 ties out of 10 Pujols comes up in free agency....so you can buy him and then ship him off to washington. Note: it will take more than Pujols to get Stras, but that is good starting point. Stras is well worth it. In fact I don't even try to use him anymore because it's almost like cheating. He is so dominant a few years into the game and he's rather cheap to resign. Also, a cheaper/easier to get guy is Jameson Taillon from Pittsburg. He's not nearly as dominant as Stras, but He's got 4 pitches with 17/20 potential, and his movement & control are both 14/20 & 13/20 with stamina starting at 14/20. And hes only 19. He will take a year or two before you can count on him to be dominant, but he will get you there. As far as increasing budget: it depends on your owner. I have a guy in my fictional league who is a penny pincher. After a while of playoffs my budget was 130. It took 2 world series wins and with a playoff season in between to make it go up to 140!! Either way, if you are doing things right, you should be able to trade your older top players for good young prospects. Note that not all prospects end up becoming stars and I've had a season or two that were a disaster because I took a chance on a young guy. Either way, when you get bad season you at least get a good draft pick. Top pitchers go in the top 3 spots of the draft. Last edited by magicspeedo; 05-20-2011 at 10:49 AM. |

If you want pitching, use the Braves. Tons of young studs.
Hanson 4 1/2 Medlen 4 1/2 Jurrjens 4 Beachy 3 1/2 Minor 3 for some reason All of them are major league ready, too. Then you have the prospects. Tehren is (I think) the top pitching prospect in MLB. Tehren 4 1/2 Delgado 4 1/2 Vizcaino 4 Not including Lowe and Hudson. |
