Prelude to the Big World: India Premier League + others

As I'm getting geared up for the Big World, I'm going to add this 64 year sim of the IPL to the game. I'm going to try to mirror some of Indian history with the league, such as the TV boom and satellite boom of popularity.

I'll use this original post for the basic timeline of major importance in the world, with posts below this one other achievements.

1951: India Premier League is formed with eight franchises: Banglaore Royal Challengers, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Hyderabad Sunrisers, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings XI, and Rajasthan Royals
1959: Divisional Play Begins. Northern Division consists of Delhi, Kolkata, Punjab and Rajasthan. Southern Division consists of Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
June 30, 1959: The first all-star game is held. South defeats North, 19-6.
1960: The first affiliated professional minor league, the Bronze League, begins play.
May 27, 1964: The first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, passes away. The India Series is renamed the Nehru Series two days later.
1966: Delhi Defenders and Punjab Warriors join the IPL. North Division is renamed the Patel Division with Mumbai and expansion-Punjab joining the division. South Division is renamed the Menon division with Punjab Kings XI and expansion-Delhi joining.
September 16, 1967: Hyderabad 1B Jayadev Pramath hits his 715th HR, passing Babe Ruth as hitting the most home runs at the highest professional level.
September 24, 1969: Delhi Daredevils OF Nataraj Sompalli hits his 60th HR of the season, becoming the first player in IPL history to hit 60 home runs in a single season.
1972: The SLIP League, the second affiliated minor league, begins play as a second-tier league.
1973: IPL strikes a preliminary two-year television contract with Doordarshan.
1974: Bhubaneswar Warhawks and Pune Marathas join the IPL. The Warhawks join the Patel Division, while the Marathas join the Menon Division. Split-Season play is also abolished, as the playoff teams become the two division champions and two wild-card teams.
September 20, 1974: The First one-game playoff for a playoff bid occurs.
1975: The Minor-league (Rule V) draft is initiated, effective 30 days after the completion of the Nehru Series.
1981: The Reserve Clause is abolished and Free Agency is established. Players with ten years of IPL service are eligible for free agency and players with six years of service are eligible for arbitration.
1983: The Mumbai Gladiators, Kolkata Bengals, Surat Diamonds, and Patiala Silverbacks join the IPL. The league splits into two conferences with two four-team divisions. A third round of playoffs is also established. With the second best division champion in each conference facing the wild card team from each conference in a Best-of-3 format, all at the division champion's home field. This becomes the Preliminary Series, as the winners from the Prelims meet the the best division champion in the Conference Championship Series in a Best-of-5 format, the same format the Preliminary Series was held under.
