is there a way to stop the AI releasing 3star 18 y.o. minor leaguers?
I'm trying to go through a phase see if a team i built can be perenial contender getting rid of all players when they reach 28. I just want to work through it fastly, so i asked the AI to manage my minors, but it keeps releasing guys my scout think will be major leaguers....
do i have bad settings in focus somewhere? |

i should probably rephrase, i was just puzzled when i noticed my first 3 rounds from last year's draft had been released and grabbed by other teams..
so is there a function in OOTP which allows me to not have to worry about the day to day operation of the team, putting guys on DL, etc... and have me worry about managing the development of the franchise? |

Having waivers turned on is a way to exploit the ai because it moves young players up and down all the time and they get caught by human players the good players and even some ai's have exploited it. With it off it's easy to pass players up and down with no stealing issues involved. If they game had some quality ai like Casey Stengel then it might be different, but, I believe and it's easy to see that the same ai is used for every team and every team management and every team trade. The names only have been changed to protect the programmer lol (Markus) Another setting I turn off is the ability to tell me they aren't going down to the minors. This way I don't have to place them in the assignment section for 10 days then move them back a day then rince and repeat. It's a silly rule anyways allowing an employee to tell the employer what he is going to do and not going to do (especially since I own the business). ![]() Last edited by ravinhood; 12-01-2013 at 05:34 PM. |

Biggest thing to do is to make sure the lowest level minor league has unlimited roster space......

the AI went on and released 5 catchers in 3 weeks, and my Scout as a catcher fetish... not sure what he did to piss the AI Quote:
i guess i can`t delegate the roster movement of the majors team, because that gives AI automatic full control of minors (the options disappear). AI now just signed a crappy pitching coach in A+ ball at $500,000 per year for 4 year. we know which A ball team is not getting any decent prospects for a while... |

Yes......it is a tonic for keeping the AI from releasing the youngsters who have good potential ratings but very poor actual ratings.......the AI seems to care more about who can help them win games in the minors than developing players for the major leagues.....

I play the game with a very similar 'Expos' like strategy with high player turnover due to payroll limitations. My minor league system is critical to my team's success. I do not let the AI run my minors: - the conflict with which you speak about between the 'assistant GM' and the scout results in too many good prospects get released. By combining stats, prospect lists and scouting reports I seem to be able to do a superior job of getting good major league players out of the system. Any time I have let the AI manage my minors my development rate decreases noticeably. I have been unable to find any settings that are equal to my (perceived) GM skills. |

I would suggest taking the AI out of control of your minors...LOCKING all the players to their teams and using the "Ask AI to setup complete Minor League system" option from the roster page. There will be no promotions or demotions by the AI but it will keep the team setup and you can just handle the promotions and demotions without having to constantly set lineups and stuff. You will only need to make sure each team has the correct allotment of players for each positions to make a team.
You can lock everyone on a team from the Transactions page with the little bullet next to Pos at the top Left of the roster for each team, selecting them all and right clicking on one guy and disable AI promotion and demotion

And I completely misremembered the whole minor league DL stuff anyway. With previous versions, minor league DL management had been tied to a different setting, but in 13 I think Markus moved it to the Lineups/Depth/Pitching setting. I preferred it being wherever it used to be, because I don't want to set my minor league lineups, but I didn't like the AI placing players on the minor league DL because it sometimes made bad decisions. I was hoping Markus would move it back, but instead he fixed some of the minor league DL management AI, so now I'm OK with having the AI do it now. None of that has anything to do with your situation - just realized I had incorrectly stated the facts in my last post. |

note: the increase roster size to no limit, seems to be better. after 3 months, only non-upside prospects have been let go, and mostly to make room in international which was at 50.... will monitor the effect of Draft signing, and the influx of players. |

thank you all for the suggestions, it has improved the management, and i have only seen one of my roster prospect over 1 star be released by AI over one season (a 2 start MR, which are a dime a dozen), i have also tracked all free agents created age less than 25, and it seems to have lowered across the board, so the no limit on rookie league seem to have helped.
what i find strange, is that with no limit, AI is only keeping around 30 guys on the roster, whereas when it was at 40 there would be 40 most of the time.. we had another fiasco with start of following season with a rookie starting pitcher being promoted early, as a reliever, and forcing the waiver (and loss) of a 4.5star 26 y.o. closer, but this i can manage from now on, by locking optionless players, until they are redundant. |
