Big Difference in Names.txt/Ethnicities.txt vs. Game World

In Game World on 14, there are 39 language/name origin choices available, while in the Ethnicities.txt there are 40. The missing one: Ethnicities has French Canadian (lid=33), which is not a choice in Game World (because it is completely missing from World_Default). I assume that when you select French Canadian in Game World, it attaches to the French (lid=8) names and ethnicities.

This is actually not a small deal. In Quebec, it's rather common for there to be people not with only French first and last names, but with English first/French last names, and French first/English last names. This is actually pretty well addressed in names text files, and it looks as though there was a good deal of effort getting it right, yet it's going completely unused in this game. If you're doing a North American or, worse yet, a Canadian league, this is is going to be grossly misrepresented to distraction.

Has this come up before? Does anyone know whether there a fix for it, beyond a manual change of the txt files feeding the game by moving these names to an ethnicity you might not be using, such as Azerbaijan?

I play a lot of fictional leagues based solely in Canada with no foreigners, so only Canadian born players. I have not found this to be a problem at all. I don't spend an inordinate amount of time fussing over names, but I do a quick glance at the draft pool each year for oddities, out of place names, or names that just don't belong.

"Grossly misrepresented to distraction"??? A bit of overkill imo.

Also, the World.XML can be edited to add that ethnicity. There's a really good guide here - http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ref-guide.html

I know it's a pita, especially since the files went from txt to xml a few versions back. They have improved some and will eventually be much easier to edit. (Some things can be done in game now) I have used notepad++, it's free and an excellent tool for editing.

You can edit the world_default.xml file and replace LID=8 with LID=33. That will make the French-Canadian name database available, although it won't show up in the in-game editor.
