What's up with pitcher potential ratings?

Two weird things here. I took a 65 MR with a 55 stamina thinking "I'll make him a starter!" He dropped 10 points, but his desired role was starter. How does calling him something different make him suddenly suck? If I call him Lord Goldenpants will he be an 80?

The league (random generated, year 2) is awash with 80-ranked closers. If I trade a 50LF, teams will offer me 40s and 50s position players, and 70 and 80 relief pitchers. Why are the ratings for relievers so gonzo high?

A starting pitcher will receive a bump in his STUFF rating when converted to reliever and vice versa. In this case, your reliever lost STUFF when he was changed to a starter.

Also you may have it set so he is being graded only against people with the same position.
