Star Ratings
Can someone explain to me about the Star Ratings. The below player is on the Waiver Wire and it looks like he has really good Basic Pitching Ratings but he has a Star Rating of 1. Is this because he is 40, or is there something else I am missing? Thanks in advance.

It depends in part on how your evaluations are set up. For instance, compared to all players or compared to players of that position. In this case, I'd wager it's compared to his position, and while you may think he possesses really good basic pitching ratings, I'd argue he's below average. His control is questionable, his movement is okay, his stuff is certainly there, but his stamina is such that he can't face very many batters before tiring and, frankly, doesn't have the pitching tools to be a good closer, stuff aside. His actual pitch ratings aren't too bad, actually, but given his very limited use, along with a stint in AAA, I'd say managers are regularly finding better candidates to utilize.

That makes sense
I guess I was more focused on his stuff and not looking at the whole pitcher (pun intended). Now that I look at his Stamina and Innings pitched vs number of games pitched in, he would definitely be more of a specialty pitcher (one out needed to close out an inning). But his control is definitely questionable, as you mentioned, so that would make him a liability in that situation. Still learning. Thanks for the help.

It still doesn't make sense to me. I have always used the MLB scout 20-80 scale for overall and ratings. I can't figure out the stars and 1-20 or 1-10 system.

He is a very bad pitcher apparently being used with no logic as a loogy on a good team. Is this AI or human played? Either way no pitcher should get 34 chances to do this badly unless he has an inadvertently low pitch count set. Check that on player game strategy.
I have a tough time getting the AI to use vastly superior relief pitchers at all, ie some only get 10-20 games per half season. It seems strange that a team 20 games over 500 would have any reason to use such a poor pitcher and his poor results in what are supposed to be high leverage game situations.
