saving and restarting from template

I've been working on a fictional world and FINALLY got it working right...well not right but playable and close enough to correct that I can start playing and enjoying it. I saved the final working game as a template so I could restart, fix a few small things, and then play the world for real.

But the template keeps reloading from the saved point in the game that the template came from. How do I start a game from a in game saved template without starting from that point in the game?

A template is just that. A template from which you can start a new game. It is not used as a save point. Also, if you have saved from a game in progress (as opposed to saving the template before starting the game, you should delete all the players in the league before saving the template (unless of course the players are integral to the template). That way you can start a new game from the template and get new players.

Yeah I should have done that. I didn't realize that saving the league template would also save all the players and history and everything.

Just to make sure I understand. Can I take a copy of an existing league delete all players then save as a template. Can I then re-start the template at any year I want fill with players and sim to create history?

I've never tried after "years", but yes.

1. Remember that when saving a template, it saves the date and will start with that date and it can't be changed......You don't need to delete anything at this point unless you want to.
2. Simply create a new 1 team template and set the year you want your original template to start. Starting date will always be Jan. 1. If you want a different date then you have to sim forward before you do step 3.
3. Now add your original template to the 1 team template and save it.
The start date will now be Jan. 1
4. Start a new game with the template you just saved. Now you can delete that fake 1 team and anything else you want. When done save it and you'll have your original template setup with a new start date rather than the stating date of your old template.
Hope this makes sense...it's exactly how I got my 2013 NCAA to start in Feb. and the MLB to start in March.
FWIW: The first template you load will determine the date your game will start at and override the remaining templates. (It has no effect on the leagues opening day dates. They will start as determined by their schedule or the schedule options you set in each template).
