Where's the News?

Recently, in my fictional league, my career leader in home runs retired after 20 years with 557, more than a hundred ahead of the next hitter. However, there was no news item about this momentous event, and I only found out through the league transactions box in the manager's office. Considering I get news items about a lot of trifling happenings, I found this omission very strange. Is there a special box in the game settings you need to check when retirements like this occur? Or is this an area where the league newspaper needs work?

Nothing you could have done. I had Albert Pujols retire and didn;t even notice it until I went to go look up what team he was with. 550 HR or so, was disappointed that I did not see that he retired.

Hopefully, this is something that will be looked into for the next version. News items like this make you feel more a part of the game. Another I'd like to see is during game play when a traded player first comes to bat against his old team and gets recognized for such.

Newspaper needs a lot of work, and retirement announcements for well known players should be automatic. Same for a player who spent his entire career with 1 team (provided he played a long time).

In the interim, what I do at the end of each season, when "preseason" starts, go to league history, then click the "Players" tab, and sub tab "recently retired". This will show you who retired at the end of the previous season.
