Thanks to OOTP memories survive
monday at 5:30 pm in Eugene , Oregon (Home of The Ducks) historic Civic Stadium burned down .One of the last remaining 12 wooden stadiums and national landmark has been destroyed. But thanks to OOTP the games can play on. Back in the early 70's I used to hitch hike from a small town 11 miles away (Creswell) and watch the Eugene Emeralds play class triple a ball. players like Schmidt,Hisle,Gamble,Doyle,Bowa,Boone,Luzinski and other Future Phillies Greats.Along with Dodgers.Giants and pirates.
I saw JIm Ray Hart and Juan Pizzaro two of my favorites players and many others as they came to play the Em's at Civic. Now The stadium can no longer been seem as you travel by, but i can look at it as the triple A em's play in my league of 60's in OOTP. The class a emeralds now play in The New Phil Knight Park or Pk park as it is called next to Where The Oregon Ducks play their Football games .Thanks to uncle Phil who owes it all to Steve Prefontaine who the Nike shoe was made for. Civic will be missed by many, but not those who own OOTP. |
