Instructional League
Had this thought while looking at my Short Season teams.
I have 30 players in SSA, 50 in the AZL and 60 on my two DSL teams... Obviously not all of them play, but I got to thinking. What if I created a new minor league, for September 10-October 15 level rookie, and affiliated it with my club and the maybe 3 other teams with affiliates. I could set age limits to 23-24 and roster size as 35 and then have a short instructional league. Couple thoughts/?s: 1) would this work? 2) if I deleted the league at the end of the "season" would my players just be reassigned to another affiliate or would they be released? 3) has anyone tried this? 4) would the extra games benefit development? |

Just keep in mind that for every boost in development you would have to have a similar drop off with good players in order to balance out the pyramid. Are you prepared to see some prospects decline?

Not sure I quite follow what you are saying.
If I develop a player by adding a short league, I risk players who don't partake getting worse? I'm just looking to get some feel for my players at the lowest levels, how/why would this impact top level talent? |

I have seen people use Winter Leagues. I haven't tried them myself but it would be a fun thing to test out, if it affects development. Logic dictates the more playing time they get the more they have a chance at developing. But who the heck knows. There is also the 'random' factor we can't account for even in tests. In an online league version of winterball, the problem I kept having was 'morale'. Even Rookie league guys would be pissed if they were sent 'down' to a winter league. Presumably you can counteract this with by making sure the league 'reputation' is higher than rookie/SA, but it was an issue. Also, once you delete a league it deletes all of it's players so keep that in mind. Last edited by tyrionbro; 04-22-2015 at 06:15 AM. |
