"not enough pitchers," clears rosters when saving

Hey everyone. I'm new here so please forgive me if I'm being dumb.

I bought OOTP with the intention of creating a league of individual players, in the manner of that Fangraphs article that was posted a few years ago. I set up the rosters, mostly by editing the roster file and re-importing. It seems to work, but when I go to start the game I get two problems.

One is the game says "Chicago has no pitchers on the active roster (25)." But when I check both the Cubs and Sox, they look fine. There are 25 Adam Eatons and 25 Kris Bryants, half of whom seem to be relief pitchers. When I set the computer to auto-manage all rosters, it makes no difference. A few other teams seem to have this problem as well, which comes up when you try to run simulation games.

The other problem is that when I save, the game instantly clears all rosters almost entirely. The same thing happens when I back up the game or try to re-export the rosters.

Can anyone tell me what might be happening? Thank you.

Sounds like they all are being sent to minor league teams or being released.

On the team setting page you can freeze the roster(s) and this won't happen but you will have to make roster changes, yourself.

This is what I'm getting.

It doesn't make sense as there are clearly several Kris Bryants listed at pitcher. It's not happening for every team, either - only the two Chicagos and Milwaukee.

I don't know. I think I may have broken the game. Oh well

you might have broken it but eh. Keep trying. People have done it before. Perhaps something new in OOTP16 makes it harder. You might have guenea piged yourself into figuring out how to do it in 16.

I vaguely remember the Fangraphs article. Didn't they say something about it not being easy to do.

Just thought of something. Are the individual players set to the positions they need to be or are they just set in the lineups and rotations.

I'm not sure what you mean by that? I have a guy listed at every position in the lineup if that makes sense, as in there's a 2B Kris Bryant, a SS Kris Bryant, etc.

Do you have the pitching instances of players set to pitcher for their position. If you don't the game will tell you you don't have any pitchers. It's the only thing I can think of.

Just assigning the position in to the player does not mean that the lineups and pitching staff order have been set up. Did you go into each of those tabs (Pitching and Lineups) and make sure they populated?

Also, you may have found a logic error issue within the system by having the "same" person in every position. In 9 I had enough issues when I accidentally brought Hank Aaron into a team that I had Hank Aaron on. I would have one get an injury, and about half the time both would show the same countdown "days" for injury and the injury status indicator.

Just throwing this out there....

I would think this isn't the issue, because I don't think it would be possible, but you never know; Do all the Bryant's have different player ID's when you check in the player editor? you didn't somehow manage to load duplicate player IDs when you edited the rosters outside the game?

Wouldn't cloning the player and then changing the player position be the easiest way to do this?
