very low batting averages?
I'm in my 2017 season and have a bunch of 3.5, 4, 4.5 star players who have great "contact" ratings. In the stats/rating reflection many are .285 avg and above.
However, almost everyone on my team is batting between .200-.250. When I look at other teams, they also have low batting averages for their best hitters. Do you guys recommend adjusting a setting to make the batting averages more realistic? I'm about 1/2 through my season and noticed this in previous seasons as well. Thanks! |

Had the same exact issue. I don't know what to do about that but I just struggled through that season and it seemed to bounce back a little bit the following seasons but nothing like it was prior

Do you have league evolution on? Maybe you're going thru a golden age for pitchers. Do you automatically update modifiers entering a new season in your stats?
Could be a lot of reasons why it is happening.

Can you post a screenshot of your League Total Modifiers?
(League Menu -> League Settings -> Stats & AI) |

I figured that wasn't going to tell us anything, but it was worth checking. Everything seems in line there.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to go from here. A potential work-around is to up the LTM for hits, but that would affect the entire league and (I assume) it's not happening across the board. I'll have to defer to someone else on this one. |

Yeah, that seems right to me. Since the public criticism of the "steroid era", pitchers have been becoming more dominant. ERAs are down, strikeouts are up, and power numbers are down; although not so much batting averages, but that may be the next step in the evolution of the game. I would not be surprised if in reality, the next 2 years show batting averages south of .250, and league leaders with fewer than 40 HRs, like back in the 1980s. The solution? EXPANSION! San Antonio 2018 y'all.

i've seen this problem in the forums more than once for '16.
player creation modifiers would be important too. if you left them at 1.000 it should be very unlikely to encounter the problem you are having. player development rates could be important to some extent. are you sure nothing odd (experimenting) was done during the creation process before you started playing? look over all pitchers in mlb, if they are all cy young candidates, something is definitely wrong. if it looks like a similar distribution of talent as when the game began ??? i'm a broken record - make a new game and sim out 3-5 years without caring. then review history of league. if it's within reason, your league just might have somethign poorly set. maybe make a world template based on current game and use that for a new game to see if you get same results. If it is for the ml quick start I think I know the reason.
Combination of how the game generates results via league totals. Ie the league will generate only 41500 hits. It has to distribute them over the talent available. Better hitting talent means less hits per player. And the qs has a lot of great young hitting prospects. If most of them develop then there are too many good talents. I tendo have to raise the batting totals a bit for the first 5 or 6 years and then stabilize there to produce player numbers that seem right. Just my two cents. |
