Substitution Question
I drafted a guy who I hope will become my big league ss in a few years. I want him to start 75% of the time at ss in the minors, then some games at 2nd and 3rd to increase his value. I put him in as a backup at 2nd every 5th game, and at 3rd every 7th game. But the ai keeps removing him from those rolls. I used to be able to list starters as back ups, ( say my of is subbed for every 5th game, then he subs in cf every 10th) but now the game won't let me. So I either have to carry an extra guy I don't want just to have. a back-up cf, or back up my starter with someone who has no rating at cf. not reasonable.
Also, to show my ignorance, I know that the roster changes don't take effect until you start a new game, but how about the other tweaks? Do they take effect in my on-going game? |

Try clicking on "Prevent AI from making roster changes" - I think it is somewhere under your manager settings.

If you mean the fixes and changes that patches make, the answer is yes they all take effect on your current game that was created before the patch came out.
If a fix does NOT work in an already created game, the fix list of the patches will explicitly state this. |

If you do that an injured player will not be put on the DL, nor will a replacement be procured.

So do you have an answer to my question? How can I get a starter to also be a backup at a different position?

Make sure you have minor league lineups set to your control in the Team Control settings.

EDIT: Disregard. Try jaysdailydose's suggestion as I was just able to load a test league and make a starter also be used as backup as long as I had him in the starter role prior to making him the backup at other positions. If nothing else, I learned something new so thanks for that. Hopefully your problem also gets resolved. Last edited by craftdr; 05-26-2015 at 10:28 PM. |

Disregard, I was wrong. I just tested it and I got it to work fine. So what you suggest may be the problem. Last edited by craftdr; 05-26-2015 at 10:24 PM. |

leave the first sub spot open, put starter in 2nd sub spot. make sure the sub for the starter has the same time for substitution.
e.g. c dude1...empty...dude2 dh dude2...dude1 i think that's how i got 2 catchers to play every game. it wasn't a normal game, my memory could be wrong. it might just be something i tried. i know for certain if they are both starters and subbing for each other, only one will be in the game when they supposedly sub for each other according to a standard depth chart listing, as opposed to leaving an empty slot. I have everything under my control. I don't want two players to just change positions, I want to rest one. For example, I have 2 guys who can play center. One starts there, the other starts in left. Every 5th game I want my 4th of to sub in left, then every 10th my of to sub in cf. thus, my two starters each get one day off every 10 games. I put them in as starters, then put the of in as a cf sub. It looks fine. But as soon as I make any other move, like a change in the batting order, the sub spot is vacated. What gives?

again it might not work - it's based on a slightly faded memory and possibly a different predicament altogether:
ok, well you have to place the LF Starter who shifts to CF as the 3rd string CF and leave the first backup CF slot empty. sorry, i should have explained better. as far as changing the batting order and a name disappearing, you probably can't prevent that, because as you place the LF in a new slot, the game thinks he is now a starter and should not be a backup, so it gets 'smart' and clears the name out. most of the time, you appreciate it. in this case it's a minor inconvenience. one more thought: have you changed any individual player strategies to "force" a player to play a specific position? If you want him 75% of the time at SS it'd be best to make him start vs RHP, and vs LHP you could have him play 2B. Then when he's decent at 2B have him do 3B vs LHP.
