The 2015 Official New York Yankees Thread

Well, that was a crappy way to start. The offense was anemic and Tanaka looked very tentative on the mound. The bullpen looked good overall though so that was a plus *sigh*. Also, I've always been a fan of Gardner so it was great to see him get off to a hot start. Should be an interesting year.

Yeah, it is unfortunate but we need Tanaka to be an ace for us if we are to be successful. I do hope the offense can be productive, I have a hard time believing that Beltran and Texeria can be as bad as last year. We will see. I am still excited about the future as we move towards the new generation Yankees.

I took a chance on Tanaka in one of my fantasy leagues, so I feel your pain.

Ok, win #1 in the books, but it wasn't pretty. When you score the 3 runs to win on a HBP, WP and a shot that deflects off the pitchers wrist, it doesn't say much about your offense. However, Pineda threw well and Miller got his first save in a Yankee uniform.

So hopefully at some point the bats get going. On the one hand I feel there is too much talent on offense to be this bad, on the other some of that talent seems to be regressing. I feel like the middle of our lineup is key. Guys like Texeria, Beltran and McCann need to produce. They don't even have to be outstanding either.

Our defense hasn't helped us either.

Finally some offense! Still am worried about our defense, seems just about every game we giving extra chances to the opposition. I hope this isn't purely a case of pitchers having a bad day and more of a case for the Yankees remembering how to hit.

Yeah, I was hoping the defense would be improved this year. So far, not so much. My biggest concern right now is the pitching. Everyone is getting clobbered so far. No matter how well our offense wakes up, it won't be able to keep up with these kinds of pitching performances.

I "listened" just now (I'm not watching TV tonight) to A-Rod's mammoth home run at Camden Yards. The radio announcers could not recall a longer home run hit that way, ever.

It makes me wonder why A-Rod ever had to mess around. Assuming he's clean now, that is. Blessed with natural talent, he is, but tarnished forever like the rest of the PED fools.

What could have been.

He did it again tonight. 471 feet.

EDIT: And again, a line drive this time. 4 HR's this year so far.

Can this even be true?
Quote:
The homers gave A-Rod 658 in his career, putting him within two of Mays. But the Yankees have made it clear to this point that they don’t plan to pay him the $6-million bonus when and if he reaches that plateau, or any of the other $6-million homer bonuses in his contract. Their perspective: All of those achievements are tainted by his PED use, are not marketable milestones and won’t be recognized.
How do the Yankees think they are going to get away with this? If nothing else, they will spend $12 million, say, in legal costs, trying to avoid paying $6 million for each bonus. Head-scratching, if true.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.

Stephen Drew's projected stats, according to ESPN:

49 HR, 113 RBI, .167 AVG

Can you imagine?

Heh. Answer: No. I'd be happy if he got back above the Mendoza Line.

Is .200 the new .250? I mean it seems most of our lineup is hitting around .200. Our offense really needs to wake up, we can't keep counting on the long-ball to bail us out, it will catch up with us. It will still be interesting to see if Arod keeps up with this. I don't think he will, but good for the Yanks if he does.

Well, tonight is a bit of a relief. 9-0 (so far) with a 7-run bat-around in the 7th. They're not this good either, but lotsa runs to support Tanaka was nice to see.

EDIT: S'funny, though. Joe G. and I would not agree on some stuff. For example, leading by nine runs, I don't send out Tanaka to pitch the bottom of the 7th after sitting for something like 45 minutes during the Yankee bat-around. I was surprised he did that.

Even Mario Mendoza hit above the infamous line that bears his name (.215 lifetime AVG). Drew hasn't gotten his average above .180 in almost two years. There should be a demarcation point below the Mendoza line signifying ultra-ineptitude....the Drew Line.

One of the better offensive games they had yesterday. Not depending on one hitter to have a big night or a pitcher to implode.

I'm getting the idea this team won't be as bad as I thought!

I always liked the pitching, just need another bat or two. That could include our own guys waking up tho like McCann
