Minor vs Major League Contract during Inaugural Draft
It appears that all players have minor league contracts during the inaugural draft, but then some get assigned major league deals after the draft while some remain minor league deals?
If so, is there an easy way to determine if a player will get a minor or major league contract during the inaugural draft? Is the key based on years of service in the bigs? My problem is I ended up drafting 14 RP's, ALL ended up with Major League contracts, leaving myself in a pickle. Rookie. Thanks Note: I did not move any of those relievers to the 40-day, they remained in the DFA section until 1/11. I then tried to offer minor league extensions to them, but I have no time to wait for responses since the 10-day DFA deadline is up. Last edited by smossman14; 10-27-2015 at 05:17 PM. I think I may have answered my question, but would like confirmation:
If a player has a dollar figure listed under "demand", then he will receive a Major League contract automatically. If the player has a "-" listed under demand, then he'll get a minor league contract initially. Hopefully the above is correct? And on a related note, what kind of outcomes can I expect if I draft some weak players looking for major league deals but then offer them minor league extensions on 1/1 (after the draft)? Will they tend to agree to go to the minors? What's your strategy on inaugural drafts? Do you draft more than 25 guys looking for big league deals hoping they'll accept a demotion?
